I installed and started playing. I set everything to high at 1600x1200 and turned AA to 4x. For the most part its smooth, is this basically what everyone else does, what settings do you recommend? Im downloading the 1.22 patch and then i'll check my fps

With a 7900 gtx you should be able to play on native resolution at 1920x1200.

for some reason 1920x1200 wasn't a choice, 1600x1200 was the highest I could select. My fps was between 40-60

that seems normal. If you want better fps then just lower the settings to medium. I play everything low on bf2 with my geforce 5600 (desktop) and i get like 20 fps so that seems very good

Thats awesome!

Playing 1920x1200 resolution on a laptop - doesn't get any better than that

Because EA blows and doesn't have widescreen support for most games. Also they are the only company I found that doesn't support Setpoint in game. I can't get my Icemat and G7 to work while in their games... except for MVP 2005. I am on an EA strike now. And to get widescreen, you can usually change the ini but some games are sucky like MVP and you have to hex edit the mvp2005.exe icon, which is just really annoying. EDIT: And even after you do that, you replace 800 x 600 but it's stretched. Whatever.

Haha

Damn EA!!!

To get widescreen right click your bf2 icon, click properties. Where it says target put "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920+szy 1200
Also for most of the settings there isnt a noticable difference between medium and high so set shadows stuff to medium for some extra fps.

But it's stretched widescreen.

Yea thats a bummer with a lot of games no widescreen support. But some look pretty good runing at native resolution streched. But there is nothing like runing a game at native resolution and the game supports widescreen too. I could not run FEAR at 1920X1200 withe my XPS Gen 2 /7800GTX but WOW FEAR at 1920X1200 on my M1710 is incrediable.

here is a cool link check it out it can help on many games http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/masterlist.php

Are you serious?! I have an XPS Gen 2 with 7800GTX as well. Is M1710 that much better???!!!

I just got back from a LAN and we played BF2 extensively and I must say that i played @ 1600x1200 with everything on high FLAWLESSLY!!

And on a side note, the SB Audigy registered as EAX3 compatible and was perfect in every way with both BF2 and CoD2.

Everyone experiences that. That unfortunately will never change. Even if u read reviews like at gamespot.com they mention the same thing. We jus gotta accept it. I have and Im still loving BF2 since i got it June 2005. I play it on my XPSm170 with everything high at 1920x1200 with 2X AA and with dynamic shadows and dynamic lighting either low or off and I average 40 FPS even with intense firefights.

stil not sure how u can play at that resolution b.c its not an option. Unless u do that stretched thing (does it make it look better?). I'll probably keep everything at high and put dynamic lightning and shadows on medium probably, i dont care so much if the shadows look that realistic

When you apply the desktop shortcut resolution trick I think the only thing that is still stretched is the HUD. It is atleast not as stretched as any of the default options.

Press the ` key and then type renderer.drawfps 1 and hit enter. You could also use FRAPS.
