What is the Silver button on the mouse pad for my 5670

I am curious why there is a 4 way silver button on the mouse pad. The mouse properties in the control panel, don't say anything about it.

thank you

ok, i figured it out, i feel like i just asked a stupid question.

Who would have though that I would not have tried to use it in IE

Yeah, it doesn't work in Firefox for me. When i reinstalled Windows, i didn't even bother reinstalling the touchpad drivers for it's functionability, as it's worthless for me since i don't use IE.

What is it supposed to do? I think I disabled the auto-starting "helper" exe before I found out because it just beeped at me in IE.

It'd be useless for me if it didn't work in Firefox, but I'm curious!

it will work with firefox once you reinstall the drivers from the main website...

Its a multidirectional scroller, web pages, word docs, etc....

Sweet, i dont use it either cuz i always use Firefox. I will try reinstalling the drivers again now firefox is on the machine.

that thing is useless, wtf do they even put a scroll button on your touchpad buttons when your touchpad ALREADY has the sideways and up and down scroll feature built in. thats like having 2 left mouse buttons and 2 right mouse buttons

You guys seriously lack creativity. I use mine, in firefox, with a custom profile to go forwards and backwards regarding webpages.

Left square goes back a page, right square is forward, down scrolls down, up scrolls up. Now i can be ultra lazy and never move my hand from the touchpad

I tried it initially and couldn't get it to work (drivers were from say 3/25). So you guys are saying the latest drivers now work in FF?

Also i use a Logitech MX510 as my pimary mouse, and as such i have the drivers installed for it (so use the added buttons at my disposal). Can both be installed together, because this was the issue i had before. Just wondering if some newer drivers fixed this?

For those of you wondering about this, you need to download the latest drives directly from *synaptics* to make firefox work, as Acer is lazy and the ones they have posted are very out of date:

Yeah use the drivers from Synaptics' website, and the scroll buttons will work. I prefer to use that to scroll than constantly sliding my finger down the right side of the touchpad. And I use the left and right scroll buttons for Forward and Back.
