Best Heat Sink and fan

Thread Starter
I am looking for a realyl good heatsink and fan for my computer. I am runniung a 4200+ x2 on a asus a8n32 sli motherboard with 2 gigs of ram and a 7800gtoc. Noise is really not that big of a problem but I would like it to be slightly silent. Thanks for your time.

well, you contradist yourself by saying noise is not a problem, then saying you want slightly silent. Need to know how loud you want it here....

Best thing to do is go to newegg.com
Look for their selection and read the reviews - there are people on websites that will swear by xyz brand product, but unless you have a review by a professional or a lot of reviews by regular users, you run the risk of basing your purchase on the opinion of someone who has little real experience.

That said, if you want a suggestion, look into the products by a company called Zalman. Thermaltake and a few other companies are known to make consistently good products. You need to find one that fits your case, and the best way to do this is with a ruler and a little patience (looking for diminsions on the websites, such as newegg.com)

If you don't mind taking up a crapload of extra space near your computer...

You could do what I do to keep my overclocked p4 processor nice and cool...

I have a gallon milk jug filled with about half a gallon of car engine coolant that gets continuously pumped in a cycle: it feeds into the pump, passes over the heatsink, and feeds back into the jug.

Under a relatively heavy load, this 3.8 gHz P4 runs below 50 celsius!!!

When idle it stays under 40 celsius

you mean watercooling? lol. and those temps aren;t that great, i get that on air. I suppose it depends on how much you're overvolting, though.

Why in gods name would you use a milk carton for a reservoir?!? Just buy a decent setup...

As far as air cooling goes the thermalright XP-120 is by far one of the best heatsinks made. Not only will it cool your CPU, Memory and power mosfits, it is also pretty quiet utilizing a 120mm fan (sold separately)

Here is a link :

Heatsink

Combine that with one of these :

Fan

And you will be rockin

Peace

BTW .... My CPU is at -51deg c right now

Here you go bro: The Thermaltake BIG Typhoon. This baby took my Intel p4 EE which ran at 3.73ghz with a load temp of 66c degrees and 43c idol, to 52c load and a staggering 32c idol. That's with the cpu over clocked to 3.93ghz.

You can buy water cooling but with this being half the price or less ($55.00) and the preformance is just as good, you can't go wrong! Itt runs real quite too. I added a red fan instead of the one that came with it, just because it's in keeping with theme inside.
HERE'S THE HEATSINK>>>

THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF CLEARENCE AT THE BOTTOM

HERE'S A LONG SHOT

NO CLEARENCE ISSUES!! THE HEATPIPES ARE TALL ENOUGH THAT IT'S OUT OF THE WAY OF CAPS AND THE NORTHBRIDGE!!!

THE END RESULT IS A COOL AND QUITE THIS.....!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118113

This thing is money, and has a 92mm fan, and is alll copper, so pushes a lot of air AND is quiet... also comes in a 120mm version if you have the case room and can fit it on your mobo. Bigger fans can move at slower speeds and push the same amount of air as small fans whizzing away. General rule for case fans as well as PSU fans and CPU cooling.

i had that zalman, diddn't care for it much. Most of the zalman fans buzz after a while.

yeah I can agree with that, at least for my cu7700, although my 9500 didn't.
