4780 Crashes, Wireless NIC dissapears

I got my Sager 4780 from pctorque last week without an operating system. I installed Windows XP SP1 and I've been using the internal wireless NIC. For the past few days, the computer will show a blue screen and crash when I'm doing something. Usually, it won't crash if it's just running, but if I'm surfing the internet or watching a movie, it will. If the system recovers on restart, my wireless NIC dissapears from the device manager. What's going on here? This has happened multiple times. I'm now just using the wired ethernet card but I'd really like to get this computer to stop crashing and to be wireless.

get to microsofts web site and find and dowload the newest USB 2.0 patches.

that should clear things up for you

Also make shure that you have turned OFF the power management feature of your wireless LAN card.

I experienced the same thing.

I had to uninstall the wireless software, reboot (letting windows find the new hardware) and then re-install the wireless drivers. It happened enough times that I eventually copied the entire CD to my HDD to avoid having to carry it around with me.

I'll try those new drivers and let you know how it works.

thanks for the info.

This probably isn't related to my original question, but I reformatted my HDD, reinstalled Windows XP, SP1, all the essential drivers from the Sager website. Now, when I run the Wireless LAN setup, it installs the wireless utility, but the WLAN driver doesn't show up in the Device Manager. Windows was able to find the USB drivers and I believe they are all up to day as I've ran Windows Update several times. What's going on here?

right after I posted that I realized I had the wireless switch turned to off. my bad. anyway, I'm still having crashing problems with a blue screen. sometimes after a crash the computer will hang as its starting up, or show a black screen in the middle of loading windows XP.
