Hey guys, wondering if anyone has any info on if AW is releasing a 7900 gtx go for the 7700, i have the 7800 i wouldn't mind upgrading to a 7900 512, lemme know if you guys have any info

clevo will release the alienware aurora m7700,hyperosnic fx 7,sager 970,etc. with it soon. It may need a new motherboard but i don't know. Also the upgrade may be major $$$$ because thfis one guy bought a 7900 gtx and put it into his 9400 and the cost alone for a 7900 gtx is 1 grand! its pretty crazy so the upgrade may cost around 1200 with shipping without the mobo and with the mobo maybe like 1600 with shipping

Great question, I honestly think that would destroy the new SLI notebooks though... despite SLI, the Turion is no competition to the FX-60. On top of that, the SLI notebooks can't be true desktop replacements, as they don't have two drives... and the mALX doesn't have a second hard drive. 100GB just isn't enough.

What about the Dual gpu's in the sli's won't that beat the fx-60 for gaming???

From what I understand, dual 7900 gs's will outperform a single 7900gtx512 if everything else is the same, but the processor difference between a Turion and an FX-60 will be huge. Not sure how things like the fsb speeds will affect outright graphics performance.

I think the 9700 is a great solution for portable performance as it will be much less power hungry than the Aurora 7700.

It's a pretty good bet that even if Alienware offers an upgrade like you're looking for, that it won't be available for long after the 7900gtx's are offered in new machines.

Use the search function for these forums and look for 7700 graphics upgrades, as there is another company that will do the work for you, but it's expensive. If I remember right, it's a Sager reseller, maybe PCTorque that offered to replace the mobo and grahics for upgrades from the go 6800 to the ultra or 7800gtx. You will void your AW warranty doing it through another company though.

You need a new motherboard to go from 7800 to 7900 GTX? i don't wanna run SLI just a single 7900 512

We don't know yet. You do need a newer revision motherboard to go from a 6800 to a 7800gtx, because the voltage differences to the graphics slots are so different. You may be able just to put the newer card in your mobo and be fine, but until they're out on the market and clevo addresses it, we won't know.

I am going to order monday. It will be the mAlx or the m7700 fx60. I just need to know which is the best performer for gaming. 19inch or 17inch is not a factor for me I just want the fastest balls to the wall machine for gaming.

Well I guess I answered my own question. I just got off the phone with Alienware and asked them Which system would be the best performer for gaming. They say that even though the fx60 is a much more powerfull processor than the turion The 7900GTX is a big leap over the 7800GTX and since most of the gaming is run through the video cards and not the cpu and being the mALX has Dual 7900GTX running SLI the mALX will out perform the m7700 with the fx60 and 2 gigs ram. So since I am concerned only with gaming performance and not mult-tasking nor am I concerned moving the machine around then I guess the mALX is the one for me.

I will order today just hope I don't get that buyers remorse thing and wish I should have picked the M7700. I hate that!

Tell us how much it cost you? From what it looks like it will cost 5 grand. I got rid of my Aurora and built my own desktop for half the price and the desktop is twice as awsome. The reason why I got rid of the AUrora is because I bought the 6800 Ultra and can't upgrade to a better video card. Good luck with your new lappy!

Congrats on your order , that is a mean machine there. Can't wait to see some benchmarks. You should be on the top of yangs list for laptops for 3DMark06 . Good luck.

all Alienware people i talk to, plus a buddy who works at Alienware, said basically mALX wont be being built for atleast another 3-4 months and tested for another 1-2 months, so i highly doubt June, but until then! i remain the Yang List leader! 4771 /pwn
