Best CPU cooler for oc'ing

yeah, meant to clarify, it'll probably be sitting on an opteron 170, on a DFI board, X1900 XT with a Sytrin KuFormula VF1-PLUS, etc. I may do water later but for now I'll sitck with air

well right now, the scythe ninja and thermalright xp-120 (now called si-120) are considered to be among the best for air, pending you get a nice fan. I have the xp-120 on my prescott oced from 2.8 to 3.6, and temps never get above 54 under sustained full load, which is impressive to me.

When i build my new rig, I will probably go with the same HS because i have been impressed thus far.

cool, that was the one I was looking at, would you reccomend giving the cpu fan it's own seperate duct? I am going to be building the PC into a tektronix RM 504 oscilloscope, so I will be putting the fans and everthing where I darn feel like it, so would it be worth it? I am planning on haveing a duct for the X1900, and probably one for the CPU then I would have a 120mm fan in front of the HDD's and cd drives, then one other 120mm near the side and a 120mm fan for general exhast. here is what the front of this thing looks like to give you an idea.

putting a computer into a case that small, i would say yes, the duct will help. Seeing as it will be crammed in, you're not going to be getting great airflow, so i would duct it. Also, in this case, get the SI-120 without a doubt. The ninja sticks up quite a bit off the mobo and prolly wont fit. Also, its alot harder to duct since the fan flows front to back instead of top to bottom.

so, using the 120, you could just have the duct coming in right from the top. Like i said, you need good front to back airflow with the ninja.

not yet, locating parts for the case and such, plus waiting to see what conroes benchmarks are, if it isn't a huge jump I will be all over the 64x2 price drops. currently my system build will be EVGA nforce 4 SLi micro-ATX mobo AMD opteron 170 2 gigs of OCZ DDR 500 ram 600 watt Silverstone modular quad 12v rail PSU with the shortened cables 1 possibly 2 EVGA 7900 GT Signature editions DVD burner with lightscribe DVD/CD-RW combo drive 3 80 gig 7200 RPM HDD's(2 for raid 0, 1 for system drive) and a 300 gig for storage depending on how the 7900's cool on their stock cooling I will be adding a creative x-fi card and a tv tuner; possibly water cooling, but it's pretty cramped in that case as it is I will start a project log when I start working on the case here in a week or two oh yeah, and I decided to go with the zalman 9500 because of size issues on a micro-ATX board and lastly that front little screen on the oscilloscope is going to have an LCD in it, and I am working on getting to where all the switches and stuff control the fans, the volume, lights, etc.

I have a zalman 9500 and it idles my opty @ 2.7 stock voltage at 30c
