I've had Ubuntu breezy, pclinuxos minime .93, Various levels of Ubuntu Dapper, and I'm about to install Kubuntu dapper flight 7. In all of these, I am able to get cpu speed stepping and the fglrx drivers working.
This gets the cpu fan to quiet down, but leaves the fan for the video card spinning all the time once the laptop is on for a few minutes. In windows XP I have the gpu underclocked most of the time unless I'm gaming and I use nhc and speedfan to keep everything cool and quiet. I'm having problems getting similar functionality in linux.
I've had some trouble configuring lm_sensors and in the latest attempt I was left with a laggy system and fans running at full blast in Ubuntu Dapper.
Is there any solution to underclock the x700 in the z70va under linux, and/or at least control the minimum and maximum fan speeds for both the cpu and gpu?
