Screen Survey for those who have the E1405 / 640M - Page 3

I purchased my second E1405,

The first one has the AU 1247 and the second came with SEC 4457, and different DVD burners as well, the first with TSST L532B, and the second with a Philips drive (forgot the model).

As far as the screen goes, it seems like the SEC 4457 has slightly better horizontal viewing angles, but the same vertical, and color might be a step better. But if you were to look at them separately without having them next each other I dont think any human being could tell the difference. I mean I had to force myself to try to see a difference, and I honestly might not be correct, I only played with it for an hour last night. One thing is for sure the Philips DVD-burner is quieter and feels like it runs quicker. I will post a speed test later this week if anyone cares.

And if anyone cares to know I installed a Dell 350 Bluetooth adapter I got on ebay, and it works really well with the laptop with great range. The E1405 has cable preinstalled so all you have to do is get it off ebay for $20, simple install.

hmm... i wonder why we had different AUO models? AUO1247 vs AUO1407??

btw, let's say i ask for a new screen from dell and it comes next week. i think if i waited for it, i would be past the 21 day period since the order. would i still be able to return it to dell without paying shipping, restocking, etc??

I meant 1247, I changed my post

Wow it's that bad eh? Guess I'm going to have to give up resolution by swapping my M140's WXGA Quanta with the POS AUO e1405's WXGA+ screen. Why can't dell just fricken use the same lcd's that sony Vaio's use? Those screens are stunning.

Hmmm... still no comments from someone with the matte screen? Looks like the Truelife Gimick really does work.

Here's another question then: For those of you who upgraded to WXGA+ w/ Truelife, how is the increased resolution on the 14.1" screen? Do you like it? Is text too small? Would you recommend it to others?

i like it... its a good size.. comparable to the WXGA screen on my 700m. then again i'm 22 and have 20/15 vision, but my parents keep asking me how i can read such tiny text lol. i wouldnt say its too small tho. i would say its like reading 8-9 point font on a printed sheet of paper. for me its a good balance between font size and screen real estate.

This was a large concern for me as well since i was going from 1680X1050 20.1" to a 1440X900 14.1", but i find it to be a perfect size to be quite honest. If it was any higher then it would've been too small. Maybe you could take a trip to a Sony store or some vendor that sells a laptop with this screen size and resolution so you can make the decision yourself.

Well, I finally Received my E1405.

1. WXGA+ w/ Truelife
2. Samsung (SEC4457)
3. Screen is actually not too bad. Sparkle effect is there, but I can live with it. I don't know how you guys really measure light leakage, b/c for me it changes with angle. For example, if I lower my head there's almost no leakage, but If I stand up it's horrible. This is all on the Black Screen Saver. With regular use the screen is fine. Also, the higher resolution is also nice. Not too small.

I hope that i get the same screen with my replacement laptop for fear that the AUO is actually worse. I too don't think it's bad at all, other than the stuck pixel and the dark spot near the clock. Hopefully those will be fixed with my replacement. As of right now i guess they're only shipping with either an AUO or a Samsung panel... I wonder why no Quantas or LG panels are surfacing?

No freaking joke. If Dell's laptops used the screens that Sony uses, they'd be a perfect deal considering the sweet coupons they make available. If Dell does come out with better 14.1" screens, does anyone know if you can just buy them from Dell?
