Reinstalling OS: Someone pls help!

Hi

Im helping my sister to reinstall windows XP on her acer travelmate 4000Lci but i cant seem to find the windows reinstallation disc. All it has is just some recovery discs and system disc.

Can someone pls give me a walkthrough on how to reinstall OS on the laptop, and if possibly, without all those acer junkware? Thanks in advance!

It's the same as on a PC. Go into BIOS and specify boot to CD. Then obviously you're gonna need a disc, and boot the the CD. You can use another disc, but just use the COA on her laptop and you should be fine. Lot of laptops comes with images, so this is very common.

A bit tip for everyone re-installing with a vanilla windows cd.
Download ALL drivers before you start, make a note of the makes and models of your lan / wless drivers so you get the right one first time.

so many people steam in thinking everything will work out of the box, windows xp is getting old, even the sp2 release doesnt support all new drivers, and considering many people are re-formatting the latest laptops with the latest chipsets, they are coming unstuck when locating drivers etc.

some people also miss things like acer arcade and the acer screensaver
I have heard these are not available for download, so maybe if you backup your .scr files first and as for acer arcade I think that is available on the euro acer site.

Good luck guys

QFT folks. I tell people this ALL the time, but still they don't listen. Nothing worse than reinstalling Windows and realizing you don't have a spare CD to burn drivers onto, or a USB thumbdrive to transfer the files onto your notebook. This is very very good advice. Seems so basic, but i see it all the time.
