I have been reading that the standard sound card on these machines have poor sound...I want to wait and see just how bad but I will order a Sound blaster from the Fly......how bad is the default sound card...give it to me straight ...I can take it.....

I have owned the 5720 aka Hypersonic CX7 and the sound was great in some games and not so great in others. Basically I wasn't planning on being thrilled by on-board sound anyway so it was no loss. I was ready for the notebooks arrival with a nice and shiny brand new Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS notebook pcmcia card that worked great. Just make sure you get all the latest drivers including those for the card bus. Take care and good luck.

I loved the sound on the EX7. Both the level and the type of sound. I have bi-lateral hearing loss, so it makes a difference to me. But I was quite happy with running it with the internal speakers.

The CX7 model is a different story (and will be the same with any of the similar models from other resellers). There are only two speakers (versus the four in the EX7) and the volume level just plain stinks. For the majority of the time, I am using either headphones or external speakers. I simply can not stand the sound.

Now... if my system actually has an issue and the sound just sucks on it, I will check with tech support. I would be happy if that is the problem. But I haven't seen enough people who stated their speakers were loud and had great sound.

Would be interesting to find out.

can the Soundblaster Audigy 2 work with the internal speaker system or i would have to buy speakers to connect to the pcmcia card?

I am guessing but I would imagine you would go into the bios and disable the onboard sound and then the the soundblaster would be the the default

Actually this is discussed in another thread in this same area. The Audigy will required speakers to be connected to the card for you to hear the sound, either speakers or headphones. It will not utilize the internal sound system at all. Your system will default these actions to the card.

There have been issues with the Audigy2 card and the CX7. In certain games that come with EAX hardware support, the sound will be hissy and unbearable. The card works fine when listening to music, watching movies, and playing games as long as EAX hardware is not turned on.
Specific games known to have this option and an issue: BF2. I am not aware of another game to have an issue like this, but this is the one that has been tested and proven to have compatability issues.

well, im impressed by the sound in my EX7 (love this damn thing btw).
i read all these horrible reviews about the sound, and when i got it i expected the worse. when i fired it up the first thing i did was throw a cd in and turned it up, and let me say , it sounded pretty good. when i use my external speakers it sounds great as well. i think some ppl are just expecting a desktop type sound quality, but i say there is not much difference, maybe i got a good sound card, i dunno. all i know is atm, ive had ZERO problems with the sound. i bought the IOGEAR bluetooth head phones, and they work seemlessly with my system. the sound is great as well.

as far as the cx7 is involved, what do you expect two nickel size speakers to sound like.....lol...go buy some bluetooth head phones.

My reviews on the EX7 states exactly as what easysea is stating. The sound on the EX7 is quite impressive. I had not problems playing music from it as a portable jukebox or for normal gaming. And the subwoofer just adds so much more to it.

As for the CX7 - the headphones I am using are great, but doesn't solve my problem. I really need good (small and compact) speakers to go with it. Once I test this out - I may just find myself adding the Audigy. The speakers I did get from sony (sort of like a speaker bar but more compact) suck. So I will keep looking.
