Need Help Disassembling 3790

Thread Starter
To keep it short, the power plug on the inside of my 3790 has broke, so I can't plug it in. Damnit. I've gotten the piece that has broken off out, and It's a tiny piece of plastic that broke, and a piece of metal I can solder together fairly easily, only problem is - I can't get the thing apart! I've taken out every screw I can, excepting the two holding something down next to the proccessor and the two that appear to be holding the screen shut, and the thing won't come off. It looks like there's something holding it together by the slide switch for the battery release, but I can't find how to get to it. Please help, I thank everyone who replies, this is terrible, I gotta have my laptop

sweet

hey thanks for the service manual link. I have this bad feeling I am going to need it alot soon. It would be nice if this thing would last at least 2 years but the touchpad has already crapped out on me twice so I am not encouraged.

thanks for the sympathy. I wound up having to RMA. I couldn't get it open and the service manual didn't sufficiently explain how to open it. To get that fixed was like $10 for the part, but $80 for the labor, and $100 to ship it back and forth. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

If that is not bad enough, they take 10 days just to give you an estimate. I sent it to Sager the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and didn't get it back until like Dec. 14. they also charged me for a new touchpad but it doesn't look new to me. second time the damn touchpad broke and had it repaired. never never never buying another Sager.

fyi, the touchpad I had fixed in December just crapped out on me again. Good thing they don't warrant repairs. I don't think they ever replaced my touchpad. I think they only fixed it in some way and it just keeps on breaking because it is a lemon. Never had a touchpad go bad on me on any of the 3 previous laptops I owned. Stuck using a mouse now with the damn thing, which makes it less easy to use on the go. did I mention being done with Sager . . .

Could this really be the difference between retailers then?

I've had my Aviator CQ6 (Same M37EW) .. ordered September '04 started putting it in to full use Dec '04 so it's coming up to it's third birthday and I've not had any mechanical problems with it so far, other than the PCMCIA ejection mechanism which has gone funny, now I just have to yank the card out and shove it in.

If the service manual isn't very good for opening up the thing, does anyone know where I can find a more detailed guide?

once you have removed all of the screws from the rear of the case, there are four more under the keyboard. That is why it does not come apart. Just above the F1 F8 and Delete key, there are three little tabs. Using a little screw driver, push those tabs in forwards. Lift the keyboard a little bit while you push the tabs in. Remove the keyboard. Dont damage the ribbon cable. Undo the four screws. The rest is easy. Just remove all the plugs visible. Be very very careful not to pull the plugs out by the wires. If you break the wires it takes ages to fix the wires. (from experience). Use a little screw driver to gently push the plugs out. Flip it over. Remove the wifi card, unplug cable and feed it through. Should all come apart easily.

Jelwos, way to to keep the faith! You could have looked at the post dates on this thread and thought, "It's been a year, they probably fixed this or have gotten past this issue." Now, thanks to your reply, this thread has the info needed to get the job done. Nicely done.
