5760 memory

Luke and company have the pre-order page up - great!

Question regarding memory: PCT is charging $160 to upgrade from 1 GB to 2 GB of memory. Looking at the newegg site, I find that I can purchase 1 GB sticks for $86 (including shipping). A few bucks more, but then I can sell the .5GB sticks on ebay.

Here's the real question: The DDR2 667 memory is showing a CAS latency of 5 (wow! can you say slow? Yeah, I know, it really isn't slow, but it does make the cpu wait if it can't find what it wants in cache.) DDR2 533 memory, which costs a bit less (but not enough to be an issue) has a CAS latency of 4.

Question: In real world, non-gaming applications, which will provide better performance in a Sager notebook: DDR2 667 (CAS 5) or DDR2 533 (CAS 4)?

Thanks.

Actually, the real question is will that memory actually WORK in the Sagers. In the past I have found that buying memory for the Sager Laptops requires and almost "exact" fit - or the unit will simply not work - or worse behave very bad.

I think G-omaha pretty much summed up soemthing that was not part of the question here.
I have talked to various resellers of the Sager/Clevo and they have stated they ONLY put in the RAm that they know will work properly with their laptops.

I guess some other type of RAM may work and some may not work as well with the Laptop.
Also, I think the 667mhz should perform a tad better than the 533hmz as I was told by someone else in NBR forums.

Also.
Yes, the RAM is usually the part of a laptop you can save the most money on.
But usually its only around $25-75 savings you will accumulate from buying it aftermarket.
I linked a post here soemtime about the difference in cost between Building your on vs Pre-Build by Reseller on a Clevo/Sager and it showed exactly how much you would save and it usually is just minimal.
Around a total of $50-a couple hundred dollars savings.

But of course if you decide to build your own, you should be able to take care of the laptop on your on as well.
Thats the only good thing about buying everything from the reseller as if ANYTHING happens at all with your laptop, it should be covered by them via the warranty.
