Blue screen problem

Lately my laptop has been flashing to a blue screen and then rebooting when i am on the internet (with cable modem), and sometimes when playing max payne 2. Does anybody have some suggestions on how to fix this problem or why this may be happening. I appreciate any help you can give me.

I've had the same problem, but only when I try to download certain large files with my Linksys wireless card.

any more info for us to go on?

like an error messae on the BSOD?

If it goes by too quickly, try setting it to do a full dump of ram and/or not to reboot on critical errors. This will let you at least see the error message.

Otherwise there are just too many things it could be.

i found out that the problem is that i have my motorola cable modem, connected through the usb port and i guess this is not a good idea. Since i've been using my wireless connection my system hasn't crashed but the signal really sucks on that so i guess i'll be on my way to the store to buy an ethernet cable.

Toddler,
I have the same issue with my system. The BSOD error is IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT EQUAL and it references the sys file for the linksys card. I did a few minutes of research on this and all I could find was to make sure you have the latest device driver or you may have a bad memory module or a corruppted page file. I have the latest driver for that crappy card (july 03) and I was not using ANY pagefile. I recently changed my settings to use page file to see if that helps, but I have not tested it since. It seems to happen most when I PcAnywhere into my Server upstairs.

Have you been able to resolve your issue? I was ready to just go buy the netgear card and call it a day, but anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear them.

Thanks

If I'm reading this right, that would be the problem. If you just have a cable modem usb is fine, a little slower, but fine. Once you set up your router you should connect the cable to the modem, the modem to the router (with ethernet cable), and the router to the laptop with an ethernet cable. Check your cable box if you still have it around, the motorola usually comes with an ethernet cable, this would also allow you to use alot of the firewall type capabilities on the router.

I didn't see in the prior posts. Are you using the internal card for AW, or is it an external pcmcia?

Have you guys tried reflashing down to the 1.05 BIOS? It may just solve these problems. It solved all of mine.

Hey Guys, Im new here. Anyways, I have the same problem. I've had my Alienware laptop since about mid November of last year. back then, I used a Netgear Wireless card, and I kept getting BSoD randomly. I then decided to on LAN, but i soon found myself hungry for mobility. I then went and got a Linksys card, and I get the same problem. I dont know what to do, and I dont know where to get the BIOS "update". Any help would be apreciated.

Ok, I gave them a call. Turned out I needed to Flash my BIOS. Everythings working perfectly now, and I can now turn on and off the blinking LED on the back.

Glad to hear it worked out...

Well, I just happened to get another BSoD. Damn. Oh well, I'll call them again and see what they can do. As for the laptop, its great. I've had it for about 4 months now, and it has had its ups and downs. I was on the phone with Tech Support within 10 min of opening it up, cuz it froze all the time on boot. I then somehow fried the video card on it while watching a DVD. Took me a week before I finally ordered a replacement. I've had backlight problems here and there, and now this wireless problem. I could put this all on a scale and things would balance out. I still get screaming performance, plus everything and more that my desktop had offered, and mobility. I simply love it and wouldnt trade it in for any other laptop. Great Tech Support to. I got mine in blue, but arent they going to release more colors soon?
