-Will it make a difference in performance?
Do I chance screwing something up?

Seems like super-n00b Qs, and I'm never frightened by updating drivers, etc, ect that if something goes wrong with the HDD driver, well then wtf?

This is something I stumbled upon after intalling my new Seagate hdd.
