The nice black version brings it right in line with the iPod offering, Apple's most successful product...smooth.
Yeah but for the price diference between the black and white ones I could get an ipod.
It's a nice notebook. I'm happy with my MBP. But if I hadn't gotten the MBP, I would definitely consider the MB.

No more than a 1 gb Shuffle, though.

Anyway, there is the bigger drive that adds to the price of the black one.

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...family=MacBook

a) $1299
b) $1499
Price diference = $200

The diference between a) and b) is the color and 20 GB hardrive
if I remember correctly the average price per GB is 50cents
So the dierence is $199

This is enough for a 1 gig or 2 gig nano.

I think (dont pay too much attention to me)

I noticed this too, pretty cool:

Magnetic Attraction

Here’s to having one less thing to worry about. Opening and closing your MacBook is a snap, thanks to a magnetic latch that catches without a catch. That means no moving parts to snag, jam, or break.

The keyboard looks a bit weird, wonder what is up with that. Glossy screen, I wonder how nice it is. I usually hate glossy screens because of bad reflections. Also, did they drop the price of the 15" MBP?

Some nice pics of the black MB: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1748

Prices of the MBP's have dropped. Also, the 15" now includes the higher-level processor (2.16 Core Duo)

sorry, ignore my previous post.

Damn, 2 days ago I have bought Sony Vaio FJ270p for the same price ... shit .... ehhhh ....

Straight from Macrumors.com

In addition to the MacBook introduction today, Apple has quietly bumped the specs of its MacBook Pro line, leaving pricepoints unchanged.

The lineup currently stands as:
15.4" 2.0Ghz Core Duo, $1,999
15.4" 2.16Ghz Core Duo, $2,499
17" 2.16Ghz Core Duo, $2,799

Customers are also now able to custom-build their MacBook Pro with a glossy screen at no additional charge.

Heh, well if you have 1GB+ RAM these days, honestly the only reason you'll need a discrete video card in a laptop is if you're a gamer or a graphics pro... and obviously this macbook isn't aimed at that niche.

But damn, I had my heart set on a MBP for college, but it'll be tough to choose now! Won't be buying for a few months still so I'll wait for more reviews to roll in either way.... I'm particularly interested in the build quality of the MB and whether is has overheating issues.

For the following common denominators:

2.0 GHz Core Duo
512MB system memory
80 GB 5400 RPM harddrive
4x Superdrive
Airport Extreme, bluetooth, all the same ports, etc....

White MacBook: $1350
MacBook Pro 15": $2000

... So I guess you have to decide whether the dedicated graphics, larger screen/resolution, and probably higher quality build are worth an additional $650.

I have another thread, but what you are saying is that if I intend to use the macbook, for surfing, webdesigning and photoshop it will be more than sufficient? And I intend to have it as my main computer, I don't like having 2.

These are more than adequate for anything other than games or 3d.
I see that they weights in at 5.2 pounds. How do they weight that much considering the 15.4" mbp weights only 5.6 pounds and comes with the bigger frame and dedicated gpu. Even still, these look like amazing laptops.
I rather think: How could they almost weigh any less? I like them to be light, but I think it's nice to have some weight in the so that you feel them in your hands.

Has anyone seen any reviews or persons who have written about it? I'm interested in over-all performance and build-quality. I hope it doesn't scratch as easy as its predecessor.

I think it can still go under 5 lbs and still feel nice and solid. The Asus w7j weighst about 4.3 pounds and is the same 13.3 screen and it has a 7400go in it, and the w3j has the x1600 and a 14" screen and is about 4.84 pounds. I know its very picky and won't matter 2 much, just my .02
