It has been reported in many HP laptops the volume level is not displayed on screen. Remedies have been provided using the keyboard control programs such as iTouch from Logitech or iType from Microsoft. However, these 2 programs showed some minor conflicts with the QuickLaunch Button in some models equipped with media keys. Follow this link you'll find a way to add the volume OSD back without using any of these keyboard control program. Look at post #15 posted by zolo and #16 by me for the solution. Make sure you create a shortcut in the Startup menu for it instead of coping the exe there. It has been tested in DV4000 and DV5000. Post here with your laptop model if it works or not.
