9400/6800nu

I have another replacement machine on it's way and it is a 9400 with a X1400. Problem is that I had a 9300 and bought a 6800nu here in the for sale forums and wanted to still use it. Is it still possible for me to use this in my 9400 or do I have to settle with the the X1400. Thanks.

I don't believe you can use your 6800 in your 9400. The 9400 accepts the X1400, the 7800, 7900GS, or the 7900 GTX.

If you mean nu = non ultra then you can use it in your 9400. There was someone in this forum that got the 6800 vanilla working in his/her 9400.

no it can not be used i just tried this yesterday

there is a screw hinge that blocks the card from sliding in it is only couple of centimeters wide but it has a IC on the back and so it can not be trimmed or cut out so now i am looking for a 7800 to put in my 9400

Yes, I was talking about the 6800 Non-Ultra. Is this also a good move or should I just stick with the X1400?

You have to desolder that screw and it will work (the same way when installing a 7800gtx). A member in the forum had a successful upgrade. Try searching for the thread.

If you are willing to save some money, modify it and don't care about the warranty, then go for it. Otherwise stick with the x1400 or call Dell and ask for a 7800go and about their warranty if installing it by yourself.

the current price for the 7800 go (Vanilla) is still too high for the upgrade. its just not worth the price, last time I talked to dell spare parts the moron actually quoted a higher price for the GO than for the GTX.

I'd call Dell and tell them that you don't want to accept a replacement with a worse video card. It's stupid that you would get a worse card as a replacement.

I agree, Let them know you will not settle for a lower spec GPU.

As I understood it, he bought the 9300 originally without the 6800 nu, then bought the 6800 later and installed it. And he's wanting to know if he can take it out of the 9300 and put in the replacement 9400. In that case, he couldn't really ask Dell for a better card than what he got originally in the 9300.

I could be misunderstanding the OP though.

The above post is true, all matters on the original config...

Sell the 1400, 6800NU, and buy a 7800 Go

Or wait and save up for the 7900GTX, which will be available one day

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. I'll most likely sell the 6800 and wait for the 7900gs to be sold as a spare. I saw in another thread that it's now available for the 9400/E1705. Whats your take on this card?
