NP 9750 USB2.0 and PCMCIA not working after OS install

Thread Starter
I just got my Clevo 900k in yesterday and am still struggling with just a couple of problems. I installed XP Home oem, activated by phone (easier imo), installed all drivers, installed sp1 and 2 from a disk I keep handy from my desktop builds. I installed the firmware for my Sprint EVDO card and a message pops up that states my firmare and OS is only configured to support 16bit carbus.

This is the pop up:
" The Generic Cardbus Controller" has detected a card in it's slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the Cardbus Controller to run in Cardbus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-ca

What am I missing here? Bios setting? Windows setting?

Hmm still fighting with this issue. I have reinstalled OS and service packs but still no luck. The USB 2.0 issue was easily fixed but the pcmcia issue is eluding me after tinkering with it for quite awhile.

Per the manual the card reader only has the potential of listing the sockets as drives when installing the OS and yes it was disabled.

I used chipinfo to identify the pcmcia adapter and loaded the drivers for it but still have the 16bit v 32 bit problem. I am really starting to wonder if much of the problem is due to the fact that I am using a very old copy of XP OEM. There are several posts around the net with the same error listed but no solution. There are a few mentions back from 2002/early 2003 that this is a somewhat known problem with Windows 2000 and XP but I have only found this mention twice in forums. Still searching.

Hmmh..i heard that you need to have the SP2 slipstream in with your XP disk otherwise you may have issues. The XP OEM you get from Sager includes SP2 as part of it.

Not sure if this will help or not but if you search this forum on slipstream you can read up more about it....

Well Alb you were likely right. I finally just got annoyed enough that at work today I swung by and paid the $90 for an XP home upgrade, reformated and did a clean install. Everything is working fine now. Oddly I even had a heck of a time even installing Windows from my old disk using the RAID drivers but this was as easy as installing on a desktop. Shew

Good to hear !!

Suggest that if there are any more issues, keep 'em posted to the Sager 9750 section. Lots of people there to help yer as well.

Wow, I hate to see you had to spend money just to get a newer copy of Windows. There are lot's of websites with instructions on how to convert your XP disk to a legal copied slipstreamed CD.
