What worries me though is their return policy. If I need to return the machine, it's gonna cost me 25% as a restocking fee (which comes out to about $1400). That's a lot of dough. Anybody else ever return a machine? I mean, let's say that the machine is totally crappy and doesn't work like I thought it would or something like that. Do I just have to live with it?
Thanks.

First and foremost - welcome to the forums.

That being said - one of the important things here is to get a good understanding of the system you are looking at, and read about the experiences of others who have the same system. This will provide you a basis to whether you should go with a system or not. Answering questions about software and equipment running on the systems can be addressed by fellow owners.

Hypersonic's policy on restocking is as follows:

Quote:
Systems: Except as provided below, all desktops and notebooks systems including unopened accompanying software still in its sealed package, may be returned within seven (7) days from the date of shipment.

This provides for a 100% money back return policy. However, I am positive you are getting your 25% restocking fee from the following:

Quote:
Systems with Reflexxion Series colors: Painted desktops and notebooks systems and peripherals featuring Reflexxion Series colors may be returned within thirty (30) days from the date of shipment but is subject to a 25% restocking fee. This restocking fee applies even during the first 7 days.

In this case, Hypersonic is already out of the money due to the painted machine. I am not sure what the process is after a machine is shipped back (whether it is shipped to Clevo or what), but because of the paint job, it must make it more difficult to get reimbursed for the system.

I share these views because if I was in your position (and I have been) and I was concerned on whether I would like it or not, I would go with the non-painted system. You can always arrange to ship it back for painting later (when you are satisfied with the system). This keeps you within the 7-day 100% guarntee and helps protect your $$$$.

I am sure, however, that the system will do all that it is required to do. These systems kick butt.

One note - I have posted about the accidental damaga protection in other threads. If you have home owners or renter's insurance, you may not need this. Check with your insurance company. However, I would go with the 3 year warranty. You want to protect this investment and this includes something failing two years down the road (or even three).

Good luck!

You are not looking at a HP here. If you look through the all of the feedback here in these pages, I think that you are looking at buying one dame good PC.

Thanks for the responses.

I was actually thinking of getting a non Reflexxion machine but I wasn't sure if I could get it painted later (you already answered that question for me!)

I'll probably get the machine without the Reflexxion paint. I also found the keyboard and mouse as TigerDirect to be about $45 cheaper (total), so I'll take that out of my config also.

I did have a question about the sound card though. Let's say I opt for the Sound Blaster audio, does that mean that my FX7 won't have the 4 speaker system? I mean how does that work? Is it an 'either/or' case or is it an 'and' case?

Thanks again.

P.S. About the Warranty...I called Hypersonic and asked them about the difference between the Accidental Damage and the regular Warranty, and they basically told me that if you get the former, the regular one is pretty much redundant. That's why I only chose a 1 year Warranty along with the 3 year Damage Protection.

If the warranty statement is true - that is interesting. Normally, ADP is if you drop your notebook while carrying it, spill something accidentally, etc. THus the name - Accidental. Whereas the warranty itself covers the failure of parts - that has nothing to do with accidents. Just be safe in your decision.

As for the question on the sound card, yes - it is an either/or. If you plug in the PCMCIA card - it takes over as your sound. I believe that it disables your current sound configuration and you will ahve to use headphones or external speakers. For those using external speakers - it is probably the best bet.

FYI - there has been others who have gone back and requested a paint job, or have gone straight to the paint company (SmoothCreations) to get an after sales paint job. So there are options. I prefer to have it through Hypersonic so that there are no warranty questions. For something that I have spent a lot of money on - I like to feel safe on my investment.

Good luck!

I guess I should just take 3 years on both the Damage Protection and the Regular warranty. Better safe than sorry.

Also, about the sound...do I still get the 4 internal speakers in the system if I buy the SoundBlaster?

Thanks.
The speakers are part of the system - so yes, they are there. However, when you plug your Soundblaster in, it disables it. So you basically have to use the speakers attached to the Soundblaster.

Any more than this - or if I misstated something - I will default to those who have a soundblaster, because I definitely don't want to say the wrong thing. I plan on getting one (since I can't stand the sound on my system), however, I have been too lazy to get it. Buying too many games with my free cash.
