Toshiba notebooks, advice wanted

Thread Starter
Hello everyone on Notebookforums,
I am looking to buy a new notebook. I really like the toshiba notebooks. What I would like is some advice that is not coming from a sales person on which toshiba going to be the best. I am not planing to do anything special on it just the basics, typing papers, internet use, keeping track of schedules for work and also wireless networking, and maybe some wardriving ( I know that takes special software).
I will be upgrading from a compaq armada m700. It works great still but it is old, and it has some hardware issues, namely the fan inside that blows the air out stopped working.
I would like something that has a large hard drive. As I do like to paly mp3's and m4u's. I have doen some homework on the toshiba notebooks, but I am not a computer person. Most of the information I have is from the toshiba site, and from sell's persons at some local retail stores.
I live in the United States, in the Midwest.
Thank you, to everyone.

any preference on size? do you game at all? any idea of what kind of battery life you want?

Yea, what size are you looking for? How much do you plan on carrying it around and how often will you be working on it at places other than your main workspace (a desk at home or ina n office). These are the starting point in order to get going in the right direction as to helping you decide on something.
If you are unfamiliar with the laptops sizes there are about half a dozen to think about. Go to a local computer store to get a feel for their overall size and portability. The sizes are 17", 15.4" and 14.1" in widescreen and 15" & 14.1" in nonwide screens (the traditional shape). There are also some smaller ones (12" wide and normal aspect), but I recomend those only to somebody that travels constantly.

I would go for a a100 range perhaps a PSAA8A-05R010? you could down grade to a celeron but that spells trouble, and its not vista compadable if you wish to go there. I am a sales person my self, and thats my honest advice.

thanks for playing hrabia, but.....

actually computers out now are vista compatable, but with the knowledge that you wont get the same vista experience as others will. even low end computers now right now can run vista, but they wont have the eye candy that higher end computers will be able to display....

not a sales person, just an UNHAPPY toshiba customer.

some of them SURE might be good, but in my experience, NO.

AVOID the satellites ESPECIALLY a70/a75. thats my advice. and dont spend more tha na grand on it, its not worth a toshiba.

check out shopping.hp.com --- you can build up on any of theirs to further customize it for yourself :-) --- no i dont work for hp.

This is probably THE BEST VALUE LAPTOP available

Toshiba Satellite® P105-S9312 Notebook PC

It's high-end, and I'd buy it! But only if a large screen is what you're looking for....

Here's a link to a seller (Circuit City):
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Toshi...oductDetail.do

It's also available at Best Buy and CompUSA

I've done the research, if you want a really good laptop, buy this!

I'd agree with the A70/A75 comment, but otherwise, no. (I am hoping Toshiba has gotten its act together on the newer A versions (100/105)). I have heard many good reports on other lines (M, P, Quosmio etc.), and having owned a Satellite of one kind or another since 1999, I can say I've gotten my money's worth over the years. Except for the A75 I got last year, I have consistently changed my laptops only because "I wanted a new toy" (i.e. upgraded technology). My original 1215 still runs fine . . .

I would highly recommend the P100/P105 series. I have the P105-S6004 model and I've been very happy with it. It has a good combination of performance and features for the money, and they seem to be pretty reliable from what I've read here and from personal experience. The hard drives are fairly large SATA models, the harmon/kardon speakers are some of the best-sounding devices you'll hear on any notebook PC, and the 17" inch screen is bright and has a great viewing angle. You can't go wrong with this one.
