Comparing laptops with the same specs, which laptop out of the box has the highest benchmark scores? This is stock, not overclocked. I know little to nothing about overclocking and am a little shy of it after hearing horror stories about inexperienced people trashing their machines trying to overclock. I've tried to determine the answer to this by reviewing the forums, but it's unclear to me which benchmark results are stock and which are modifications.
I'm new to this forum and I'm in the market for a desktop replacement laptop. I've reviewed this forum for a couple of months now and still have not decided which machine to purchase. I'm looking for a machine with the following specifications: P4 3.2 GHZ, 7200 RPM HDD, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB video. I've considered ABS computer"s Mayhem G1 and sager laptop"s 5680 or 8890. My budget is around $3,000. I have no experience in laptops so any advice would be helpful. My philosophy is to purchase the fastest machine I can afford so that the technology will remain viable for longer. I understand that upgrading laptops is problematic and I would rather not have to worry about doing many upgrades. I'm also concerned about excessive heat. I know a laptop with the above specs will generate significant heat - I just want to be sure that the heat will not damage the machine or shorten it's life. I would like to run my laptop for prolonged periods.
Thank you for your response.
