Let's see...I beleive he was asking as to wether or not he could charge a senta with a 120W adapter, as he'd done so before, but didn't know if he could keep doing so...

Well, my Sentia adapter is a 20V <<223>> an' I'd imagine they'd be different for the older models, so we'd have to start with that.

But on the whole...mixing adapter types: Bad idea.

YES you WILL fry it!!

Not only must you charger match voltage but it must also match amperage.
If either of these 2 items is not exact u WILL fry your battery and your laptop!!!

have i already ruined my computer ? will it run worse now?

when charging it made a really weird buzzing noise.

In electronics voltage is important and current is not as much. Too much voltage would kill the item being powered. As far as current you can have 10 amps going to the laptop with no problem, the laptop will only take as much as it needs. Remember voltage is the speed of electrons and current is the amount. We usualy use larger adapters when servicing units with no problem just make sure the voltage is the same and the adapter has to supply at least more current then the laptop needs otherwise the battery will not charge and you may be using both battery and adapter to power it.

someone told me that amps and voltage dont matter in laptop ac adapters. because the voltage is 0-120 or 0-65....it can power anywhere inbetween there depending on how much the laptop needs. the voltage listed is the max voltage. so you can use a billion watt adapter.

open up a physics book and learn the important differences between volts, amps, and wattage. (its not rocket science)
And also this difference between AC and DC current.
Understand whats going on, the wrong idea (+electricity) will fry YOU not just your laptop.

Yes u may have already harmed your laptop, since it still works, it wasnt an instant fry-job, but you could have significantly reduced how long your battery lasts on a charge, and also the lifetime before failure of not only the battery but the laptop.

The voltage is more important, but.....
You could get shocked by 10 trillion volts, if the amperage is low enough (ie very very low) you will barely feel it, if at all. Conversely A trillion amps are harmless given a very small voltage.

But in between, unless ur an electrical engineer, dont fuc with it otherwise your asking for trouble.

OH yeah your friend is full of sh!t.

are u stupid ?

this has nothing to do with physics....and let me tell you how much moretalented i am than you in physics.

I love this last one: Why'd you post there if you're posting here?

An' you beleive a couple of Dell users with next to no posts, an' absolutely no useful ones over Arch? Also: Just going to colledge, an' know so much more about physics?
You also obviously spent too much time learning about the English language. Get a life man, or, better yet, read a book. See what you can pick up. Or, maybe, read a book about computers! Yeah...then you can stop spamming us all with questions of webcams an' innapropriate pictures!

ya, some people actually take physics before they go to college lmfaorafol...i took it in 10th grade...go back to school newb

Right...an' therefore know everything about it? Let me tell you this: everything about electrical current is physics. Sorry to burst your bubble mate.
Also, saying 'I've taken High School Physics an' therefore know more than everyone!' is like saying 'I took a semester of French in High School an' therefore can live in Russia!'. Sorry boss, just the way it works. Not nearly enough of such a wide field can fit into a High School class.
Now then, find an article stating it's ok to use as much voltage as you want. Do so an' I'll apologize for being wrong on that. Not for making fun of your English though. That, my friend, is pathetic.

Well, I also took physics in HS, alas this class doesnt even scratch the surface of what physics is. Along those lines, I have also taken a few upper division (JR/SR) level University Physics Courses, includeing one called Phys 151: Electricity and Magnetism. So YES this is a physics question......But I digress.
So Since this class wasnt my major, but still required by it (Computer Science) I took it, kinda coasted, think I got a B...hehe
Well I will be the first to admit my utter lack of competence in physics, but I did understand a few key concepts. One of which is that running your laptop of any power inverter but one that matches the exact specs is ABSOLUTELY hazardous to your system, and second that jack is a moron!!!

Dude, why do u come in and ask a question you obviously know nothing about, then get mad when people tell you you are wrong and errr your "friend" is a fool. Your reaction tells us who ur errr "friend" really is.

So if you dont want to learn, dont ask questions, dont cry when you get an answer u dont like from people who know much much more than you. In all just stfu.

PS My little brother graduated in 4 years with a double major in Math and Physics(hes a f'n stud), and now w/ a masters in physics builds shit that blows up for the government at Rockwell in SoCal making the proverbial phat cash!! What does that have to do with me....errr nothing, just makes me pitty noobs like jack that didnt get a hugged by their parents, and never learned to set the family vcr. Ok that oughta get this thread closed...hehe....I'm spent-

Oh yeah skool of hard knocks lessons for everyone.....

When I was 3-4 years old I stuck some metal scissors in a 120v home outlet....yowza
Not learning my lesson, at 13 I rigged my braces to aligator clips to jumper cables that I hooked up to a car battery....ouch.....
Then again at about 22, when doing construction I rigged a regular 120 volt Circular saw accidentally to a 240 volt line, needless to say, I made my cut in about half the expected time at which point the saw started to smoke, melt, and eventually start on fire....oops, had to buy dude a new saw
So learn from me, and dont be an idiot by hooking ur 2 grand laptop up to anything except a power converter that matches the factory specs exactly!
