Keeping Wifi card on while in stanby

So... got a netgear wireless card, very fast and good distance. Just one problem. When I go into stanby (close the lid) it turns the card off. My roomies d800 is able to keep the card on and the transfers on while going into stanby.
Anyone know any way to set this up?

Mabey....
In the Config settings theres an option for power save.

Choose disable.

Might work since standby is generaly used to save power.

If your roommate's laptop still does file xfers when in 'standby' mode, then s?he is not in standby mode. Going from memory here as I don't have a laptop on hand. Under Display Properties, Screen Saver tab, Power... button, there should be a dropdown on the Advanced tab that details what should happen when you close your laptop...

The above is correct.

More than likely, the other user of whom you speak has the "When I close the lid" option set to turn the LCD off, and to not actually invoke standby.

Exactly, by definition (and we know Tm is into definitions) "standby" means to go to sleep but not all the way as in 'hibernate'. Its generally a state where the display is off and the drives are stopped but there is still power to the mobo. However, you can usually set your own definition of what 'standby' means as Zombie noted.

but a computer that's really sleeping isn't going to transfer anything because it has no drive running to transfer to. i have my computer set to just shut down the LCD when i close it. then i put it to sleep manually when i really want it to sleep.
