Oblivion console

Due to the bugs in this game I need to access the console to spawn a missing NPC except I am unable to access the console. No matter what keys I press (have tried pretty much every key and combination - inc the ones suggestion on the official forum) I am unable to bring it up. Have also tried the suggestion on a few sites which was to add -dev and/or -devuser, also whith no luck. This has happened pre and post patch and after I reinstalled windows the other day (for unrelated reasons)...

Anybody had this problem too? Solutions? I've searched but have found no hint of anybody else having this problem.

Cheers.

"To activate the in-game console, first check that the bAllowConsole setting in your Oblivion.ini file is set to 1, which it should be by default."

Just a thought.

I found that when I was searching through the ini when I was looking to see if I could change the key the console is bound to (turns out this isn't in the ini), when I saw it (was set to 1) I tried changing it to 0 running the game then changing it back to 1 and running again, still nothing...

Still havn't sorted this out...

Was just wondering if those of you that do have the console working use -dev or -devuser switches? Also, what happens when you try and bind they key to the left of one to something in controls? Do you get '148'?

I have tried changing the input language in windows and binding other keys to ' or ~ but all with the same result.

Cheers...

yeah... been having the same problem... just haven't needed the console yet. And the tilde key does work in UT2004, so I don't think it's a keyboard issue...

Well, hopefully you won't need to, but it's a bitch when the game grinds to a halt until I can figure this out...

Also anoyed by the fact that I got rid of my USB keyboard a few weeks ago, gonna try and borrow one, if that works then although it isn't a solution at least it would allow me to continue with the game.

ooooo... found this on the net... it sounds like my system, so I'm gonna give it a whirl:

"Unfortunately, if you are running Windows Center as I am, just hitting the ~ will not pull up the console. The Microsoft Infrared Remote Control receiver needs to be unplugged from the USB port. All this means is that you cannot use your remote when watching anything in Media Center until you plug it back in. Once this has been unplugged you can use the ~ button to pull up the console in the lower left corner of your screen when playing Oblivion and have fun in whatever way suits you best."

Argh, I got that too, will give it a try now...

I was wondering about all the extra keyboards, pointers and HID devices it installs the other day.

IT WORKS!!!!

Garbuckle, you are my god...

Works on mine too.

Saw that someone had the same problem with Morrowind... and I thought if it works for Morrowind, it'll work for Oblivion...

What a STUPID thing though... the USB receiver stops the tilde key from working... that's just bizarre...
