Your right so far im seeing 10-20% increases compared to previous core.
www.tomshardware.com show sa good comparison. regarding the core i emailed ATI and there response was of course a revolutionary new design to allow for cooler and faster operations using there fandangled Low-K processing. However upon reviewing everything i found that this "new" core seems to share newarly every feature of the 9600 and since new cores usually integrate new features i can see no other reason as to why anyone would think this is a redesigned core

With the 9600 being about a 20% increase over the my 5650 and the 9700 being 30% better than the 9600 then an upgrade would be a good thing in my case ...(If its available for the 8600)
