ati mobility 9600 pro vs mobility 9700 bench! - Page 3

no one said that the 9700 was the 9600XT

and besides - putting the names away - look at the technology. I prefer to evaluate hardware by whats inside and not what it is called.

Looking at the 9700 with the drastic processing/fabrcation differences between it and the 8600 -> I can safely assume that though it may not be revolutionary in terms of features, the technology is VERY different from the 9600...

This is sorta like the Prescott vs northwood story - almost same performance but entirely different technologies...yet no one calls the Prescott the northwood XT

how about Northwood EE?

Excerpt from Anandtech

As you no doubt expect, the Mobility Radeon 9700 is based on the R360 architecture; its desktop brother being the Radeon 9600 XT. So, like we mentioned in our mobile GPU Q1/2004 update, ATI wasn't going to use the "Mobility Radeon 9600 XT" naming derivative for the M11, a decision that was settled some time ago.

Northwood EE is the king of the current crop isnt it? Its a has job but it still kicks butt...

Athlon 64 has me droolin...

this dell 8600 with the 32MB nvidia 5200go is kicking some ass in BF1942 (I am kicking ass ) but it looks better than the radeon 9000 64MB on my ex-sager 5660

Im with this observation...

3.2ghz Northwood EE has More cache than its higherclocked 3.4ghz 512kb brother it was no surprise even with slow L3 cache that the saying (more the merrier) fits in nicely since it creams the 3.4ghz version. basically no matter jumps in memory advancements having more L1, L2, L3 cache to cpu's design will favor largely in most games and memory hungry bandwith

Here is everything you want to know:

the 9700 is about 20% faster than the 9600, on average.
