Shutting Lid - Page 2

I won't have time to open my laptop up until this weekend, I have too many midterms over the next few days. But, from careful examination of the 5680 service manual, I believe the switch is integrated into the top case of the laptop, but I am not sure if it detaches.

registry settings can prevent this too... they are all tied to power management settings and screen closure behaviors. Try regedit and search registry for *apm*

I have had a similar problem but I have not sent my 56XX back to sager for anything. What I found was not that anything was broken but the pin actuated by the plastic triangle on the lid was slightly bent to one side and therefore not getting hit by the triangle and not turning off the screen. Take a small scredriver or knife and GENTLY bend the pin to one side or the other (may take some trial and error as it may not be obvious which way it is bent) That should take care of your problem.... or at least give you something to try.

Make sure 'latch' closes when shutting... very common problem you describe. Also, check device manager for any devices 'dinged' out. Although you might think these are unrelated, may give you great indices for root cause.

FYI the magnet trick IS real. We do it here at Dell all the time.
This thread is why I am ordering the parts and fixing my 5680 myself lol
