Are there any IBM laptop forums??

Hi-

I am interested in getting an IBM laptop for college and was wondering if anyone knows of any IBM forums that might help me learn more about them. I know this general forum covers some ibm ones but they don't by any means go into any detail with it. Thanks for your help!

Only place I know is HERE and the posts aren't as frequent as a forum such as this one.

I haven't been able to find any decent IBM forums either, surprising consider the zillion thinkpads out there. The one above at thinkpads.com is pretty useless.

Most of the IBM laptop users, use the forums on IBM's page. You have to set up an account though I'm not sure if you have to be an IBM owner to get one.

IBM stopped those forums back in Nov 03

That is really annoying that there are no good IBM forums. I would think by now that almost every topic imaginable would have a forum by now, especially Laptops with all there are out there. Oh well, I guess one will have to do if there is nothing else.

Show us enough users and IBM discussion/activity and we'll create the section. I have a couple IBMs and I know many people and businesses that use them. Everyone I know with experience using IBM likes them, but are not the type to hang out on a forum to discuss them. They're more the type that put them away after they're done working (school work or business work). We try and keep the sections here limited to brands that people are so crazy about they would sleep with them and that also have enough to talk about that a section dedicated to them wouldn't look dead. I've never seen anyone with a modded IBM or that takes one to a LAN party. Those are the people that typically want to hang out on a forum to talk about their system. Let me know if you think I'm missing something here.

Yeah, I agree with Adam. I think the IBM forum issue can be simiplified by someone's opinion of shortages of the HP Compaq nc8000 review in a different website. Basically he stated that the machine (in reference nc8000) is generally purchased as business buy in corporate america, IT companies and small business. Usually, these users do not share opinions of the machine because they are not generally for personal use nor was their own cash spent to make the purchase; any complaints or praises are directed generally to the company. With that being said, I just feel IBM models are so oriented in the business workplace that any additional interaction occurs between the user and IBM.

I wish someone would establish an entity for IBM users or newbies but it appears IBM is happy handling request via newserver or local tech support.

Yeah, that is kinda what I feared. Dell seems to have the type of following that I wish IBM had. It is hard to get an idea of new models, problems, hints, etc. but I guess that is due to the nature of the company and their historical strengths in the business market verses the consumer one. Personally I would be one of the ones to talk about it endlessly but I can see where you guys are coming from. I guess I am more of a dell sort of guy in terms of mindset but like the quality, keyboard, etc. of the ibm laptops.

Oh, just add the IBM forum here and see how it goes. I'd like to see an IBM forum myself.
