5720 performance on battery

Just wondering if anyone here has done any benchmarks on their 5720 whilst running on battery.

I did and was shocked by how badly this notebook performs when it isnt plugged into the mains. Anybody else here able to provide figures?

3DMark03 - 1834
3DMark05 - 1346

I think most here would agree that these are very low.

thats normal, considering that your cpu is running at half the speed and your ram is running at half the speed and your gfx card is running at 100/100 frequencies.

Yea that is normal. My 5720 would get about 100-120 fps in Counter-Strike: Source while it was plugged in and the game at max settings running 1680x1050 resolution. When unplugged though it dropped to 25 frames per second LOL!

The problem is that the FSB underclocks to 74mhz as well as using speedstep which is not normal. In fact i have never known another laptop to do this.

There is a BIOS update that addresses this issue you just have to search these forums and you will find other posts about this issue.

The BIOS update you mention i believe was this one discussed here in which there was a problem with playing DVD whilst battery powered. The issue i refer to is one in which the FSB is actually underclocking itself when on battery. This is in addition to the CPU and GPU stepping down. If you own a 5720 (or any other Clevo M570a derivative) look at what happens to the clocks in CPU-Z when you switch from mains power to battery power and you will see what i mean. Edited to add images to show the underclock occuring on the 5720 when used on battery.
