External monitor for notebook..............

Thread Starter
I'd like to connect my HP dv400 to an external 19" monitor, preferably through a docking station or hub that would allow me to also connect a keyboard, mouse and printer. Does such a docking station/hub exist? I don't want to have to connect each device to the notebook every time I want to use the external monitor.

Also, will I be able to use a 19" external monitor using integrated graphics? Does it matter if the monitor is digital or analog?

Thanks for the guidance.

All laptops have a vga out, so u should be fine with that and the integrated graphics are more then enough to drive a 19inch monitor.

Do I need to connect the monitor thru the vga on the notebook or is there a way to leave the monitor connected to the docking station and connect the notebook to the monitor thru the docking station via usb?

Both of those ways will work just fine.

Can anyone recommend a docking station or hub that will work as I described?

Targus has one, pretty expensive though. There are a couple floating around ebay too.

doesnt HP have one specifically for that series notebooks? Otherwise, 3rd party solutions are all USB.

hp has a dedicated docking station, it even comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, all you have to do is slip the notebook in and its ready, pretty expensive though around $250

I'd prefer to use an external 19" monitor vs the 15.4" on the HP via the HP docking station but I have another question: some monitors have USB ports on the side bezel - can I use these ports for a mouse and keyboard and if so do I also need to have a USB cable running from the notebook to the external monitor?

Thanks for the help.

I recently bought a 19" dell monitor, has'nt arrived yet but it comes with 4 USB ports. Dell also generally has the cheapest monitors especially when you use their coupons...

hold up.... a monitor comes with usb ports? really now that's interesting. Here I was thinking that only keyboards and drink warmers had hubs built into them. It makes sense though I must admit.

A lot of them have a built in hub. I have a 5 year old Sony with them, too.

ebay . It's got a 3 (or 4 I can't remember) USB hub built into the base. Basically it's a pad in which you sit your cup of whatever on and it heats up to keep it warm. I had one sans the hub and it worked alright, it made my tea taste a little funny but there weren't any edis stceffe i epoh.... Sorry what where we talking about?
