What I mean is as far as complete care goes: Use care and diligance when using, traveling, using, eating or drinking around and storing your notebook and pay yourself for complete care, thus insuring yourself +$200

Play the percentages against a failure of a part after a year and save another $300 or so on an extended warranty which in MOST cases will not be used anyway. Its a Dell dude!!!

Instead of paying Dell the money put it aside and save up to $500 on your next notebook...kinda like getting a $500 coupon to use AND stack with others available at the time. Soon you will save enough for a free upgrade of a whole system after a few years!!!

Thats kinda what I mean. It's worked for me on many items over the years!

My notebook can be said to have been paid for with savings from not buying extended warranties!! It adds up when you think of all the products you buy where they try to scare ya into buyin them!!!

As usual, Trombo makes sense. If I order this thing tonight with a 1 year warranty, I hope to god it does not break on day #366.

Being able to send it back is THE reason you should take a stab at one.....I will bet you don't send it back. i bought a pretty "thin" system totally thinking I would have to send it back for more horsepower....I "hoped" it would be good enough..........It was Now..Im writing on it now in my living room while playing Sim City 4...as two desktops run in my house all alone! I kept it and enjoy it although this is the first time Im actually using it at home with the router other than testing it.

We all "hope" on all we buy. Years ago thats all you had. No extended warranties were available on lesser reliable products no less. since business realized there was big money to be made in the sellng of them...well they are all over the place. FEAR FACTOR is is hit on TV ...Go figure. we are scared into buing so many things lately we really do not need.

But for some like Dell-Machina it helps to pay for "peace of mind and to "sleep better" each finds their own value in things sold...I found my value in a thinly spec'd lappy...Some find theirs in a loaded lappy.. It's all personal choice for so many personal reasons...

One question, and maybe some advice needed here. I can spend just a little more for a unit with a 4X DVD burner and a WSXGA+ monitor. I just wonder if the SXGA would be nicer looking compared to the XGA, or is just about monitor real estate? I would love to have a nice crisp clear LCD... thats a big thing with me. Unfortunatly, I can't find any pics of the WXGA LCD in action, so I may just have to chance it.

back in may i ordered a macked out 8600(around $2800), then found this forum...which was only sager back then...discovered the sager 8887 and summarily cancelled my order with dell.

I just ordered my 8600 yesterday, and Dell has a promo going for the free upgrade with dvd burner as well as a few other good promos. I can't wait for mine to get here.

Haven't seen the Dell WXGA persay, however I've seen another LCD in a retailer down here in Australia with the same size and spec, and it was fine. 1280x800 I think the resolution is. Think 800x600 but with an extra half again to the right.

Unless you actually need the extra screen real estate (most people, although they _say_ they do, don't really), I'd go with the WXGA. The WUXGA would be overkill for you.

As as we all know, Tombo is very vocal about how happy he is with the WXGA!

Actually, native resolution with the WXGA is 1280X800 I think

The SXGA is a crisp LCD, Im sure the pixels are smaller on the SXGA+ They have to be but the result will be more real estate and more detail as a result. try looking at a desktop in all resolutions for the real estate question.

As afar as Sager goes. I researched them on a recommendation from a respected and knowlegable friend but I cannot see putting a desktop chip in a notebook since I build my desktops and know how big of a heatsink and seperate fan you need on those puppys. I cannot see whre the technology requires any less heat tranferance in a notebook where there is no real ventilation and a hot GPU with the same issue! It just does not seem technically astute for the long run. The hundreds of heat related threads bare that out and i made my decision based on that knowledge and my own experience in dealing with desktop heat requiements. Heat is THE killer of electronics and when the ratio of hot to cold is extreme as in any product that gets turned off and ona lot there are expansion and contraction issues of tiny circuit traces which eventually become brittle and open when you turn the lappy on....A perfect example of this is the incadesecnt light bulb..It always opens when you turn it on, and flash..its dead. Hot/cold ..not as big of an issue in a desktop thats left on all the time.

Anytime you see a thread with "lock up while gaming" 'reboots" you can be assured they are all heat related issues. If a 3.2 has to step down to "save' the system from over heating, why bother having it at all? Same with the GPU that cannot run at desktop clock speeds. et you are paying the desktop price!!

I would have to keep my fingers crossed I guess :/ I just wish I could know before I did the old check out thing....

Yeah..Samsung, I think they are all samsungs as there are no issues with the LCd, But mostly the hardcore users post and none use the SXGA so I doubt there would be a lot of threads regarding this LCD. It is better then the SXGA+ ISAW at the Dell kisok though~

ooohhh, better huh? THAT is encouraging
well let me qualify that. The SXGA+ was not as crisp. I think it could have been one of the infamous Hitachis...Im sure the Samsung SXGA+ would be slightly better in smaller pixel size alone at 1278......

Well, if anything, I think a nice crisp LCD is KEY.
