I hear you on that point. Of course you have to take into account the fact that we did "pre-order". These things really didn't even go into production until last week.

I am willing to bet you are probably in good shape Serid if you haven't received an e-mail by now...

They were expecting shipments last week, don't know if they got them or not.

If you're receiving these emails, you're in stage 4. I finally found out that my estimated ship date is 7/3, and I haven't received the email yet.

If you're not interested in waiting, you shouldn't buy a custom configured computer, you shouldn't buy from Alienware when they build computers to your spec after you order it, and you shouldn't pre-order a model they aren't shipping yet.

I don't know if you guys noticed but the configurator for the m9700 now offers the Microsoft® Works 8 Productivity Suite for free, I called AW CS to check if it would cause any delays on my order If I was to request it, and yes it would delay for about 3 days, so I just decided not to. Just wanted to let yall know bout it.

I was told Friday I was in Phase 4. I actually had bought a m9700 and a m5500. But the m5500 screen was backordered so I bought ANOTHER m9700 with a ship date of 7/16. One was SLI (the one supposed to ship on 7/3) and the other not (My wife didn't want the extra weight with SLI and RAID 0). So, I'm waiting like all you folks. Haven't got an email about parts - they say everything is good.
I think most of the m9700's are delayed anyway due to screen and wireless card shortages, so it may not make any difference.

Works 8 looks pretty worthless anyway unless you don't have a word processor program already.

Heh. What I should/shouldn't do is entirely under my domain, but thanks for the comment... I am sure I have a worthy place to "file" it.

Waiting 30-45 days for a pre-order "custom configured' model that they themselves quoted to be shipping at the end of this month seems reasonable.

Given that crap happens, I am willing to give them an additional 2 weeks to sort it out... but at some point it's money I can spend elsewhere and revisit the purchase when they don't have as much trouble fulfilling it.

I did finally get the email today. Screen and Wireless card on backorder. I am rooting for them to have something ready in a reasonable fashion as I was really satisfied with the AW desktop I purchased in 2002, and I really like the design of the machine.

By the way, their Sales Support seems vastly superior to their Customer Support in terms of knowledgeable/actually being able to help.

When I called today asking about the ship date (since I didn't receive an email), I called Customer support (which is what Sales Support encourages if you're close to Phase 4). The immediate response was that since I changed my order (got the updated price reduction and the ML-44) that it would cause delay. However, as soon as I pointed out that the Sales associate had assured me there would be no delay... the story changed to "backordered parts" and an email I supposedly was sent on Friday.

PS Hammer:
The point of my original comment was that I assumed having a pre-order instead of just normal ordering was for AW to be able to gauge demand for the machine (since the mALX didn't have a similar pre-order, but is shipping much later).

Having to backorder parts on orders placed on 5/17 seems on the surface like poor planning. It's not the end of the world, but I feel that I am in no way being inflammatory by point it out.

Well, I had not received any emails, so I went ahead and gave AW a call. I spoke with a rep in Sales (as CS was already closed).

Apparently:
--I am in Phase Four
--There was no note at all regarding my screen
--I have the video cards, memory, and hard drive already
--He expected my card to be billed in full tomorrow

Pretty cool news. I hope that he is correct and this order is completed soon.

He also still has team, Italy, in the World Cup, so, he is happy. (Though my wife isn't, as Italy beat her home team, Australia, today.)

I'll see what happens throughout the rest of the week.

I meant nothing "inflammatory" with my comment. Anyone with any experience with companies like Alienware that build to order know that it takes time to manufacture these systems, and any supply issue will delay your shipment. The original estimated ship date doesn't take into account possible delays due to inventory, and that's clearly stated on the website.

The current situation with shortages of particular notebook lcd glass also makes me wonder what your assumptions are based upon. If you assume that Alienware simply forgot to order enough screens, you're unaware of the current situation with notebook lcd glass supplies.

If your point is that AW gave you an estimated ship date, and they have two weeks past that or you'll cancel your order, I'm sorry you may be disappointed. Sure it's within your domain to cancel, but as I said for someone to order a pre-order system that is a brand new platform, then cancel due to supply issues during a global notebook lcd shortage shows your assumptions aren't based on reality, or any familiarity with Alienware or the high performance gaming computer sector.

And if you want to be angry with me for letting you know the reasons behind the delays, and blaming me for your not understanding the nature of buying a pre-order brand new platform during a global supply crunch, that's entirely within your domain as well. It's just as stupid, but who am I to suggest you catch a clue?

If you want a machine in a week, order a pre-manufactured system from a company like Dell after first confirming they have them in stock.

What a speech. I agree with that.

Yo. This was a happy thread. Now it is a warzone.

AW is a made-to-order company. The build it from scratch-ish. Yes it takes awhile. If you will use the computer for business then you have a right to go to a different company, but just remember that since you already ordered it and are one of the firsts you will get the computer before us, buy if you go to another company then you still have to wait atleast a week for the computer to arrive.

That's a good point. If Serid ordered before me and he cancels, that means I'll get mine sooner.

I think you should cancel Serid, who the hell do AW think they are...?
LOL.. Everyone wants there computer now.
Yes, I believe in instant gratification, so your damn right I want my computer now. I think I just might make threats to cancel my order just to get their asses in gear.(although I'd never really cancel and have to wait all over again) But they don't know that!!!
We should somehow find a way for every person that ordered an m9700 and tell them that they should threaten to cancel there order to scare them.

Or someway trick them into actually canceling so we get ours first. >_>

Mwuahahaha..ha..ha

Luck you man! Hope I'm right behind ya! Changing the issue here , as for your friend's team " Italy " , what a bad call from that referee!!! What a shame! Australia deserved to go to extra time on that game! Anyways, they won't make to the finals, that I know for a fact! I think we might see Brazil VS Argentina / Germany. Of course! I'm going for Brazil! Being that USA got eliminated! PS.By the way when did you place your order?
