Aurora m9700: Ordered and Process Reviewed - Page 22

I know this is an AW thread for the M9700, but just wanted your thoughts. I'm thinking of getting an Evesham Quest Nemesis

http://www.evesham.com/products/info...3-D5FB0534299E

Which is based on the same chassis as the AW9700, they offer either 2x256 MB 7900GS or 2x512 MB 7900GS, which do you think I should go for? Bigger is not always better I believe,

Thanks for any advice,

UKB.

I don't know if you spotted any of my posts, but I ordered one of those last week (Tuesday the 4th), just waiting for it to turn up now..

Specced mine out as per my sig

The current GPU's that are in the 9700 run hot only because of ventilation. So if you put 512's it might run extremely hot

I use only CORSAIR Memory and I have never ever had any issues. I put 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145562

I'd check to be sure they have 512M 7900gs's, as I've not seen them anywhere else. Not sure if that's a typo or not.

If they do have 512 gs's, you might as well go for the best.
Evesham 'confirmed' that they were 7900GS's - UKB called them, as did I..

However - we all know what the technical knowledge of some salesfolk is like, so I'm definitely waiting till it's in my sweaty clutches before declaring everything a success

For all I know, it could turn up with 2x 7800 GTX in it - that's what Arima (the ODM) list as standard equipment, after all.. (damn well hope it doesn't! but you never know).

Make sure that Evesham is not the Go-L of the United Kingdom!

If it isn't a typo, jump on that!
If it isn't 2x 512Mb 7900GS then I'll be:

a) p*ssed!
b) sending it back

So fingers crossed, I'm dying to get my hands on it!

At least you guys have phases to watch -- all Evesham's site says is 'Payment taken. Order being processed'.. Aaaaaaaargh. Still, they confirmed I'm still on target for the 17th today...

If you Evasham guys find that the bios on your cards and mobo aren't locked, you may be asked to post a copy here for people that want to OC...

And about the 512, I'm just surprised I've not read that Nvidia is putting them out anywhere. It doesn't seem like there would be a lot of demand for a low power vid card with that much onboard memory... It should definitely help though running things at high resolutions and settings if it's for real.
If it isn't locked then I'll be happy to help out with BIOS images etc

As soon as it turns up (well, give or take an hour or so) I'll post a review (not in the Alienware section, as it's not really an Alienware, sadly!) with pics and a full write up

If they're 7800GTX's then you'll probably be able to hear the sobbing from where you are

i am really intrested in thei 7900GS 512. i cant find them anywhere, and they never made 512 versions of the Go 6800 or 7800. did they mean that between both the cards it will have 512 total?

anyone find a link, this may be a possible upgrade for the m9700

I don't think they mean the latter, as they listed 2x 256Mb as a seperate option.. From the Nemesis product page:
Quote:
17" WSXGA X-Bright Dual 256MB 7900 (1680x1050) [£0.00] 17" WUXGA X-Bright Dual 256MB 7900 (1920x1200) [£50.00] 17" WUXGA X-Bright Dual 512MB 7900 (1920x1200) [£149.99]
That's the three configuration options they listed.. [edit] Incidentally, I couldn't find reference to a 512Mb 7900GS on the 'net either - info about the actual MXM cards available seems very hard to come by, other than nVidia saying 'Look at our card format!' :-/
post #438 of 667
hmm, i was hopping they were 7900GTX 512's (i would upgrade now!) but they would go out of business if they offered 2x Go7900GTX 512 for only an extra 150...
You weren't the only one hoping that, don't worry

I don't think posting a review of your computer here will be an issue, especially since it uses he same base platform as the m9700.

If you do post it somewhere else, please post a link. I'd like to see the review.
