I'm really depressed about the fact that mine is going to get to my house on Wednesday, and yet I won't get to see it till Friday. I'm in Providence, RI, and my house is in NJ, so I'm taking the train to NJ to get it. Lol. I wouldn't have it shipped here because I wouldn't trust the mail/package handlers in the university post office to take care of it.

Phase 9! The suspense is killing me...

Got mine in today. What an awesome machine

One small rain on my parade, it has a single dead (dark - red) pixel in the right hand side (about an inch outside of the defined center quadrant). Reading their policy on pixels, I don't qualify for a replacement.

Thankfully, it will see maybe 5% of it's usable time on the LCD as I have a 24" widescreen LCD for 95% of the time (it's on my desk).

Marker, I noticed you got over 10k... could you provide any tips/tricks as to what drivers you're changing or system things you're tweaking? I am still pulling in the 9600 range

YOU GUYS CRACK ME UP!!! I COULD JUST PICTURE THAT! Unfortunally I wouldn't be able to do the same, 'cause mine is being delivered at my work place in NY City, and I work on the 18th floor! wait a second... Maybe I should stand by the window and be on the look out for the fedex truck...

It sounds like the vid cards have quite a bit of headroom for OC'ing, even though overclocking a laptop is kinda silly. It's the same core as the 7900gtx, with some pipeline and geometry differences, but the main difference is the stock clock of 375 instead of 500. The memory on the gs is also rated for 500 as opposed to the gtx's 600, but I don't know if they're physically different chips. Might also just be clocked differently.

As for the tv tuner, I'm not sure it's an upgradable part, you'll need to call AW and ask. However, there are usb tuners available with the same hardware, so unless you want it internal the usb tuner might be a better way to go.

Bummer, haven't heard of any dead or stuck pixels yet.

There are programs you can download that are successful at popping stuck pixels loose, you might want to try one of those.

Here's a google search, good luck!

Sometimes it's worth waiting for your delivery person with a camera...

Thanks for the link, I've been playing with the app most mentioned and "massaging" that point through a soft cloth (as they recommended).

Unfortunately, it isn't working so far. No worries, soon as I get it home (I had it delivered to work... yeah I am getting a lot done today ) it will be closed and on a cooling pad and I won't even be able to notice.

Now, I just need to starting getting the right drivers and utils to tweak it out to the max. Best I've done is 10042

Did you check to see if your CPU driver is correct and if it's not have you fixed that? That was a problem on marker01's rig, I know, and it'll be the first thing I check when I get mine on Friday.

I PM'ed him and this is the info he gave me:

The correct driver can be found here
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont...mdcpusetup.exe

You just want to uninstall the driver from add/remove programs and install this one.

Greetings folks!

I've been snooping around here a while and thought I'd chime in on a new bit of intel that might happen. Given the title of this thread, I haven't seen anyone post that is taking the "corporate" route to obtain a laptop.

I have a requirement for a 64-bit laptop. Right now it's between the Alienware m9700 (my choice) or an Acer Ferrari 4006 (some IT dude's idea). Besides the fact that the Acer would come through a reseller (which I'm not comfortable with support-wise), there were a host of reasons why I'm leaning towards the m9700, despite being nearly twice as much (as I specc'd it, 3yr support, etc).

If my boss decides to try to order the m9700 for me, I will post here on my ordering experience. For now, I'm posting just to have a few more people crossing their fingers for me!

Wish me luck!

Alienware has a corporate sales division, you should contact them and they may be able to offer you a better price. Best of luck...
