Hey Marker,

First, let me say... THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS. It's been great hearing about the m9700 since you received it. Mine is scheduled to be shipped next friday. I have TWO of them on order (one SLi/Raid, one without).

I understand you need 64bit processor but please understand that the m9700 is designed for high end graphics.

honestly, if you're not doing intensive 3D graphic work, IE viedo game development, you really won't benefit from an SLI system.

the m9700 is designed for high graphic gaming, but will serve well with any 3d graphic intensive application.

However, let me point out one thing. The NVIDIA 9700 GS May not work with any 3d graphic intensive application. Workstation applications such as Maya and 3d Studio Max may not work correctly with that card or the SLI configuration because the professional features are disabled. The NVIDIA Quadro series are the only NVIDIA accepted cards for using these 3d Modeling/Animation packages. I've already had great problems with the consumer cards and the 3d apps. For Gaming, YES. For Modeling, it's a crap shoot. It all really depends on how that card works with the workstation features required. It may work for some folks and not for others. It's a big friggin rip off in relation to how NVIDIA and ATI have the workstation card racket where they can charge an extra $1000 to support workstation features with the same chipset. LAME!

Anyway, thanks Marker for the reviews, etc.

i couldent agree more, i recommended he get the MJ12 m7700a (Opteron processor, up to quadro FX 2500m) for a more business orientated "mobile workstation"

ya... last i heard on Maya was Nvidia supported SLI mode for Quadro systems, but dont you normally use multi monitor when running this? you cant have mult-monitor with SLI enabled. IDK.

but ya, if your using 3dstudio max, SLI is NOT for you... wonder if there ever going to fix that

First Impression...

WOW!!! So friggin huge! The display panel is gloriously bright and crisp. My RAID 0 was setup correctly (thank God...) No dead Pixels as far as I can tell, and it's nice and fast.

I used my cooling pad right away. That works great.

I ran 3DMark06 shortly after I got the initial user setup done, and scored a nice 5717. I installed City Of Villains. On my desktop, it would take about 25-35 minutes to install. The m9700? 10 minutes. All I can say is that I am impressed.

The sound is great through the laptop speaker. Best ones I have heard in a laptop ever.

Finished transferring my files, and am chewing my way through patching my games ATM.

Sorry, but I did not have my camera handy when I opened it at work this afternoon.

All in all, I am impressed with the system overall, and give AW a huge

Which one are you using, if I may inquire?

I'm really enjoying seeing all the happy posts about the m9700, seems AW has a winner on their hands so far.

With Maya, I noticed that they simply don't SUPPORT SLi, but on the Maya boards I've heard of success. While dual monitors can be nice for Maya, the app uses its OWN windowing system (not Win32) so it has troubles with multiple monitors occassionally. Also, there are many folks who claim that they have a setup with an NVIDIA consumer card, and have had no problems. It's just a crap shoot. I actually REMOVED my Quadro and put my 6800GS back into my workstation when my class was over.

I will actually try to install Maya on the laptop and see what kind of success I have. It may work. Who knows.

It is made by Antec, just the $45 model. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...oteBook_Cooler

BTW, I managed to finish patching my City Of Heroes, and I was able to use the native resolution, 1440x900, and set the graphics to the max quality, and it was friggin sweet. On my desktop, the recommended setting would cause me to be just a bit choppy at times. Not this laptop. Smooth as silk.

I have not had the time to try any other games, but from what I can gather, all the games I have will run perfectly on this system.

Would it be easy for me to upgrade to a ML-44 in the future?

I dont think I would need a new Mobo.. I could just replace the chip.
Does anybody know where there's a list of games that are SLi-capable? I know there are patches for some, so are most others compatible by default?

Specifically I'm talking about Guild Wars, Halo, and games that use the Source engine (I'm guessing they're all in the same boat, being HL:2, CS:S, HLeatmatch, etc. etc.).

Yes, you can simply swap out the processor for any turion single core that uses the same socket. I don't know if they're going to be introducing any more higher speed processors, but now the fastest is the ML-44.

You just need to remove the heatsink, take out the old processor, drop in the new one and reinstall the heatsink.
Now could I put another different processor in there as long as it is the same socket? I believe it is 754?

Of course this would maybe nead a different heatsink? I see that Athlon is 754.

according to AMD, they plan to phase the single core turion out by the end of the year

Ya.. something about socket AM2 or something. Ya.. hopefully when they phase it out. I will be able to get a good deal on a processor.

I doubt that. The Athlon requires more power, so I'm not sure the mobo is capable of handling the desktop processor, and it would also generate more heat.

Yep, the Turion X2 will be their main mobile processor after it's introduced. I wouldn't be surprised to see them throw out one more Turion though... 2.6GHz.
