Aurora m9700: Ordered and Process Reviewed - Page 27

YES! The Wireless cards that were backordered are finally in and my m9700 just jumped to phase 5. Called AW to confirm and James just said that it shouldn't take too long to get it out to me. So hopefully I'll have it by the end of next week. Assuming the border guards don't confiscate it from FedEx and start playing games on it :P

does anyone remember how long phase 8 and 9 took?
For me 8 to 9 took 5 days, because they found something wrong with my system.

Pissed off!!!

I'm really pissed off. I got my m9700 this afternoon, everything was fine until I find out that my Optical drive (CD/DVD) wouldn't eject. After calling AWTS, I find out that it is defective. Unbelievable, after going through all these F()*&*&* phases, I still get it defective. Now I have to wait a couple of days until getting a new part to then replace it. I hope you guys won't go through the same problem. I took some pics, I'll post them sometime tomorrow, really not in the mood tonight.

That sucks HS.....I might actually cry if mine comes to me defective...I mean seriously, I love AW. I've wanted an AW pc for years because 95% of the time I spend on a computer I'm gaming so nothing else compares to AW. I've waited a month and a half so far and probably closer to 2 months when I'll actually receive my system and if its defective I might cry.....

I get mine in approximately FOURTEEN HOURS!!! W00t!!!

My m9700 arrived at my house on Wednesday, in New Jersey, but I'm in Providence, Rhode Island. So tomorrow I'm taking the train back to NJ to visit my family, see my friends, GET MY NEW LAPPY!!! Of course you see what the real reason for the visit home is.

I just spent an hour making a 10GB folder on the desktop of my current computer (actually my dad's first-gen XPS, since my previous Inspiron went belly-up) with all my music/docs/torrents/etc etc.

I bought -- yes bought, not pirated (I felt guilty after being scolded for using a pirated copy of Halo) -- Half Life 2: Collector's Edition today, and it's gorgeous even on this laptop. Which isn't to say that this one's crappy. It's got 1GB of RAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 GPU, so it does just fine. Oh yea, 3.2GHz P4/HT. I installed HL:2 and it ran fine but it gave me a message about getting newer drivers. So I downloaded the newest ones from ATI and it didn't work. I got the infamous "you need the standard VGA driver" thing. For some reason HL:2 would run even with the old driver but CS:S wouldn't. Whatever. I'm giving this rig back to my dad tomorrow and it doesn't matter for him because he isn't a gamer.

I'm so excited!!

I'll post once I get my new baby up and running. I've already named it, as you can see in my sig. It's Grendel. Hehe...

Bummer, I know that's disappointing... It must have been working at some time or they wouldn't have been able to load the OS...

I know with my desktop drives, there's a small hole on the door that if you push a paper clip in gently it will release the door mechanism so you can pull it out manually. Might see if it has that so you can at least load some software...

Grendel, eh?

Maybe I should name mine Dick the laptop, so when I misplace it I can ask everyone if they've seen my Dick.

You'll be telling everyone it's 17" of pure pleasure too, I'm sure

I still haven't thought of a name for mine - everything else in the house is named after Matrix characters (I know.. I know) - Morpheus (my giant black cased desktop), Neo (my 'new' laptop which is now old), Trinity (main server), Oracle (old box that's a replicant of the main server), Tank (the HTPC)..

What to chose, what to chose.. Maybe Merovingian - except that's far too hard to type repeatedly

Go with "Smith"! He was a crafty sob and he was the "ultimate" program. So it should suit your brand new state of the art laptop

HH believe me I have tried that many times, it won't work, maybe something got bended, who knows. I'm using an external optical driver to install my games and softwares for now. But still ya know....

Not a bad idea, that

It's not going to arrive on Monday anymore, though

Apparently Alienware aren't the only ones who haven't figured out the fine art of ordering & component allocation - they got half way through building my machine, then remembered they needed to order RAM for it

Now since yours is going to be Grendel.. Should mine be Beowulf or maybe Hrothgar or Grendels Mother.

Hehe..hmm.. what should I name it. I think Beowulf.

Oh and It is one the fedex truck for delivery!... so I will be gone all day(I have to go sit at the door and wait) and make a review this evening.
I'm going to name mine "Foighne", which is Irish-Gaelic for "patience".
Mine's on the truck for delivery!!! Go Fed Ex go! I took off work today just for this occasion Once I get it, I'll post lots of pics and such. I'm really sorry HH for the optical drive prob. That sucks man. Hopefully AW will just send you the part to repair it yourself. That way you don't have to worry about delivery times.
BTW If you check out www.alienware.com now they are advertising that they can ship out the m9700 within 10 days of the order. If my order arrives today, it'll be exactly 10 days AFTER the estimated shipping date which was 3+ weeks AFTER I had ordered (Though I did preorder and knew I had a wait) ah well..
Still in Phase 3. AW just informed me that everything is in except for the optical drive, which is on back order. They don't know when that is going to be in.

Funny that Salec ordered his after I ordered mine with the same drive, but his is on the truck.
