Aurora m9700: Ordered and Process Reviewed - Page 28

What was your order number? Mine was 259* I had actually made my original order about a week earlier but I then had to cancel that order and make it again for me to get the 5% discount. They might of just kept me in the queue the whole time. Sucks you're in phase 3 though. But you should at least get in 10 days now! So says their website

Anyways, I JUST GOT IT! Fed Ex just dropped it off!

Edit: Duh, just noticed your # on the sig. That sucks man...

I am on my brand new m9700!! wooot.

Cool as an ice cube nothing hot at all.. been on it for about 2 hours now and nothing hot.

Expect a really nice review later. Maybe not so good pics. Have to use phone cause Camera has no batteries.

Now keep in mind I only have 1 video card no SLI I scored a 6115.

I think I can score higher. THis is 3d mark 05

Also since I have only 1 GPU it came with an SLI cable? I dont know what the little cord is. pics later

Straker2354, when did you order yours? What config??
Ordered it on May 26th *frowns* but got delayed due to those backordered wireless cards.

Got it with-
Processor: AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML44 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
Operating System (Office software not included): Genuine Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Service Pack 2
Display: 17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD with Clearview Technology
Motherboard: Alienware NVIDIA Mobile SLi Chipset
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB
Hard Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 100GB 7200 RPM SATA with NCQ
Optical Drive: 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software
Video/Graphics Card: Dual 256MB NVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled
Sound Card: High-Definition Audio with surround sound
Wireless Network Card: Internal Wireless 802.11b/g miniPCI Card
Communications: Integrated 10/1000Mb Gigabit Ethernet & 56K V.92 Modem
Bluetooth: Integrated Bluetooth Device
Primary Battery: Alienware m9700 12-cell Lithium-Ion Smart Battery Pack
Warranty: 1-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service
AlienRespawn: Alienware Respawn Recovery Kit

Then a few days after ordering I upgraded the warranty to 2 years and changed the HD from a single drive to dual 120's in Raid 0.
The only thing that I wish I had upgraded NOW was the screen, but I think I'll be quite happy with the 1440x900 because its still an AW

I believe that is a sata cable.

to my knowledge, you do not need an sli brige between the 2 gpu with the notebook chipset, like you do in desktops.

Are you sure about that? The HotHardware review mentioned that in their engineering sample they did see the SLI bridge and that it was required. I believe most desktops now a days do not require one as well as the 19" SLI laptop where as this one does.

BTW: I now understand why everyone said AW is worth the wait. I absolutely love this laptop! no dead pixels, no faults what so ever! This thing has been running ever since I got it with next to know heat coming off. In fact, i've had it on my lap for quite sometime with no problems. This laptop is great, the quality is great and the extra detail AW put into is is great. My only gripe is that they put the clearcoat painting on the touchpad. I love it on the rest of the laptop and it makes it shiny and durable..but the touchpad makes it somewhat difficult to rub your finger on. No worries though as I have my logitech G7 wireless gaming mouse that I'll be mainly using. Also, mine came with the AMD Athlon driver installed which I quickly swapped out for the Turion driver. This laptop is the best! I just need a name for it...

I'm glad you found a work around, but yeah I know how disappointing it is if everything isn't perfect with this kind of order...

I had one desktop from AW that arrived and woudln't boot. The box was damaged, so tech support had me remove and reseat the video card before anything else, and it booted right up. Still runs fine five years later...

I just hope the replacement drive fixes you up and it's not the interface to the motherboard that got jolted...

That is just in case you decide to upgrade later and add a different card. You'll have the cable that connects the two cards ready to go.

With SLI, the cards communicate through a bridge chip, or more recently through pipelines on the motherboard. The m9700 uses a separate SLI chip and the cable as it essentially eliminates the additional pipelines needed between the cards. The mALX on the other hand handles it all through the motherboard. It has more pipelines to the cards, but some of them are used to pass info between the cards in place of the cable.

6115 in 3dMark05 beats my desktop Alienware handily...

It's just the drive, I've right clicked on the drive on my Device manager and it says the device is working properly. For some reason it's stuck and doesn't want to eject.

Despite the problem I had with my system, I must say that I'm loving it. I ran Farcry, Fear at 1600X1200 /1900X1200 it looks beatifull. I have also upgraded my memory to 2GB. I love the Ultra sharp LCD. It hasn't got hot at all, I have the machine on for most part of the day now, and it's so silent that I almost felt sleep. Hopefully I'll be even happier next week after replacing the defective optical drive.

*sigh*

I work for a big company. Big company = lots of red tape. Since this is a one-off customer order capital expenditure (*pant*), the process really sucks.

The local lady who handles all the orders got a lot done in one day (including adding Alienware as an official supplier to the company). However, the ONE person who approves custom orders is out on vacation until July 24th.

So now she's trying to find a workaround. Doesn't look like I'll have my machine any time soon.

Well, by the time you can order, there might be new options that aren't available now. There's always a silver lining.

New option = requote = re-justify = start the whole process over again. No thanks.

I'm home! In New Jersey! It's sitting over there, on the couch! Ahh!

I haven't even turned it on yet, just because at times like these I'm a real b**ch about doing things systematically. So right now I'm waiting for my new external drive to finish reformatting. I made it out of the old 2.5" 60GB Fujitsu drive from my old Inspiron and a new Byttec hotdrive enclosure. So while it formats, I sit and sweat...

I'll repost tonight once it's all set up and running. Wow, I'm gonna be posting FROM MY NEW ALIENWARE AURORA M9700!!!! It's soooo pretty! Lol.

^^Watch now it doesn't even boot, like HH's old desktop. Wouldn't that be a laugh.
Oh shit I just noticed something (I'm still on my dad's laptop, as this new drive is still formatting.) The invoice sheet with my AW says 1GB RAM on it, and I most definitely ordered 2GB. So I don't know whether it's an invoice error or whether they actually built it wrong. I guess we'll see when I turn it on. Wish me luck!

EDIT: Wow it's now 1:06 AM.
