what's a good coupon for use on one of those?
incredible difference in price between the US and Europe...

On the Dell BeneLux website, the price for 7800Go was 300 euros for the upgrade, and for 7900 GS it was around €600 euro ...

nice

but now they've revised the prices for 7800 and ATI Radeon cards (same price for both cards, both at €108.50) and pulled the 7900 GS ...

Bastards...

Now the ATI 1400 really stings!!! Anyone know if the 7800GO or 7900GS is available as a spare part yet?

Yes.. the 7900GS is available as a spare part. It's 325.95 in the US and the part number is UF804.

Nope...

That part number is for the 7800GO (confirmed by Dell spare parts), and when talking to spare parts, the spare parts guy wanted to sell me a 7800GTX for $441 installed by a tech. I thought the 256MB 7800GTX was not a direct swap out for the ATI1400......would you wait for the 7900GS to be offered or go ahead with a 7800GTX (if it is in fact a direct swap for ATI1400)...any thoughts??

Product Quantity Unit Price Total
Card,Graphics,256MB,I9400,G70 (UF804) 1 $325.95 $325.95

Direct quote from our Dell rep here at my office. UF804 is the 7900GS.

The 7800GTX is NOT a direct swap. It requires a post to be removed (De-solderd) off the motherboard. It holds down the keyboard on the right hand side. There is a post about putting the 7800GTX in the i9400. It can be done, but it's not a direct swap.

Does anyone know how high the 7900GS is clocked in dell i9400? Do they use referance clock-speeds, or standard dell underclock like the 7800go?
considering it was just released today, its gonna be a couple weeks before anyone has a 7900gs in a 9400/1705. Though I am sure some of the xps1710 users could answer this question as they would more than likely be clocked the same, but most of the xps users on here have the 7900gtx...
Put your money on the 7900gs using the usual Dell underclock though

Man talk about lousy timing. I have a E1705 in the production phase with a 7800 card as we speak. I know that laptops get obsolete pretty fast, but that's a little ridiculous. Any chance I can call Dell and see about upgrading to the 7900 before it leaves the factory?

Cancel the order then order a new one.

I had the same issue cause I used the coupons, etc. I called them up and explained the issue. Basicly they added it to my order for only $200 more. I was upgrading the X1400 card. Not too bad of a deal I guess. It's just going to push my shiping date further out.

Oh well.. At least they honered the coupons I had put in that had expired.

Only proble with that is I used a $750 off coupon. No guarantee that that will still be valid if I cancel the order. I just talked to them on the phone, they're upgrading the card for $150, tried to get them down to $117, but no go. With the coupon I'm still ahead, so no biggie. The extra video oomph will be worth it.

That price is a little steep considering what we already paid for the 7800 Go I think the better deal for me at least is to use my 264 dollar 7800 gtx in the 9400 since it will out perform the 7900 anyway.
I agree that $150 plus the $250 or so paid originally for the 7800 is a little pricey, but it is a laptop after all. I priced it out both ways, with cancelling the order and placing it again or upgrading the card on the current order, and saved about $30 upgrading. Since I want this computer to run graphics intensive games for two years, I think getting the best card available was the right choice for me. I'm not likely to install another video card in it during that time period while the warranty is active anyway. After that time I'll reevaluate
