U Guys Leave Your Laptop On 24/7?

Thread Starter
my desktop is on 24/7 and my new laptop coming will probably be somewhat of a desktop replacement.

Just curious if people leave their laptop on all the time with maybe some sleep mode or do you turn it right off after you're done.

Is it as safe to leave on 24/7 as a desktop?

Yes, I've never had a problem leaving mine on 24/7. I usually just close the lid and let it run. One huge advantage of notebooks is that your notebook uses a max of 130w of power, and much less when it isn't being used. A desktop will almost always use more than that.

yeah my latitude d810 i used to leave on 24/7 had the monitor power go out after 3 hours but the laptop kept running never had an issue

just got the e1705 and have not done the 24/7 thing yet but D810 was ment to be driven hard i am not so sure about the inspirons

Inspirons are no different. I've had a 9300, 2 9400s, an M170, and now an M1710; and never had any problems running any of them 24/7 for weeks.

I'd give it a rest on Sundays, I think the lap deserves it.

Nope

not one days rest mines on 24/7 7 days a week

if i turned it off i would need to put the heating on!!

too cold here need to get back to Egypt

Yes no problems, leave mine on 24/7 all the time, My last Packard Bell laptop only got turned off when i was on holiday so it was basically on all last year until i got my 9400.

Good question I was wondering the same thing. Any disadvantages of leaving it on 24/7?

my i9400 never goes off i aplied AS5 to it and it stays relaitively cool for a laptop I dont game a lot tho

When I turn on my father's lap 24/7, it made nosier and noiser. This laptop was around 9 years old so I don't know if recently laps are doing this or not. Since my m1710 is new for me, I leave it off evertime I'd done with it.

I fold so my CPU usage is at 100% 24/7. I've had it on continually for like 10 months and have no had a problem. No heat problems or anything... I do have a laptop cooler and usually run it in an A/C environment.

Nah I don't leave it on too often. Personally I think the form factor of these DTR's is way too confined to leave them on all the time with the massive amounts of heat they generate - my 7800 idles at 66ish vs. 38 C for my desktop.

That was a good one!!

P.S.- Mine is only on when i use it. I avoid keeping it on 24/7 to reduce dust from geting into it and decreasing the life of the lappy by unnecisarily working the HD and CPU when not in use.

You're laptop will be so old and outdated by the time it ever quits from wear on the parts, that you'll have bought and replaced it at least once or twice.

I leave mine running a lot. Not 24/7, but close.

Idling at 66 is high. I usually idle at 43 with my 7800 Go GTX. And under 100% load my CPU is around 50 C

stays on 24/7 with a reboot each day.

My machines are only on when I need them, occasionally if I need a big download I'll leave a machine running overnight, I have full faith in the stability and cooling of my machines

Well itll b old to me by that time but im referring to its longevity for its resell value. I will be reselling it when i get a new one in 2 yrs. In the meantime anything i can do to keep it at the value its worth Im gonna do so thats why I dont keep it on 24/7. good point tho.

Mine has never, ever been turned off since August 2004.

Well, ok, not quite true. It was off while I was on the plane to London.
