Webcam

Alright I got some gift cards and I'm looking to buy a webcam for college next year. Doesn't have to be compact because it'll only be used in the dorm. I have about an 80$ budget but would be happy spending only about 50$. I just need something that'll give a good picture/decent audio. Thanks!

cool thanks that second one looks nice, I think i'll go for that one! Anyone have any personal reviews of it? I'm gonna get it from dell.com though because i have a $50 coupon + there's a 20$ mail-in rebate and it's 10$ cheaper then logitech's site already! yay!!

i have the creative cam for notebooks (very small). the quality is huh... typical of small cams... normal i would say. so far it's working great, specially because it's small (on IM, you don't mind about quality that much).... but yes, i guess the 2nd will do the job. just make sure to search google about quality problems (something I always do before buying anything, even a gum)... if you see the same problem beeing reported over and over, you know what to do...

There are other topics on this if you search...in fact I have one started not to long ago. When I was looking I found that the quickcam pro 5000 had ALOT of good reviews. I would have gotten that model but I waited to long and had to purchase in store and it was priced stupidly high. Ended up going with the quickcam communicate ITX and they work great, good audio/video quality.

I just picked up the QuickCam® for Notebooks Pro, and was VERY disappointed to find that they do NOT provide a 64 bit driver. Other forums state that there is no word from Logitech on when, or if, they will release such drivers. Guess it's time to RMA.

sorry if this sounds noobish, but what would a 64 bit driver provide?
64 bit drivers are designed for 64 bit operating systems. In my case I have been using Windows XP x64 on my Athlon 64 machine for 2 years now, but I can't use this camera since Logitech doesn't support 64 bit operating systems. Perhaps Logitech hasn't accepted the fact that 64 bit is now commonplace, or perhaps they just don't care. Either way it's unacceptable.

i can see why you wouldn't be happy with this...doesn't affect me though so i'm still gonna get it, thanks for your experience with it though. Other then that did you like everything else? I know that's a big factor obviously but there were still things you liked right?

Since there isn't a driver avail for my OS I can't get it installed, meaning I can't offer any advice since I haven't been able to use it. I wish I could be of more assistance, hopefully it works for you.
