whats up,

im thinking about jumping on the Macbook bandwagon....kinda wish it had dedicated graphics card but oh well......anyways, w/ core 2 duo rumored to release in august, do you guys think they will upgrade all the laptops to core 2 duo? or will they do the MB pro's first.......then a few months later do the MB's? i dont need the laptop right away so im thinking i can wait a few months...

thanks

they'll probably do the pros first since the MB's came out after. If you need a lappy, get one, if not, then just wait.

Merom is coming in aug or sept and then the new chipset is coming soon after that with new wireless, better intergrated graphics and it is made to run at 800 fsb. There is aleays stuff on the horizon so if you can weight, you will be happier later but hate yourself in the short run. SO its your call

new chipset, new wireless, better graphics card... does this all apply to the macbook or only the pros?

Macs are stepped up several times a year, and even though something new will probably come some time during the autumn season, I doubt that the performance difference will be shocking. If you need a laptop and want a macbook you should buy it now.

All the new stuff coming out is by intel and will be available to the macbook and pro. Both should be in the systems by some time next year but if you want a new laptop now, go out and buy one.

I am pretty sure the 800 mhz FSB merom version isn't coming out till like March of next year.

But I would be interested in a new chipset-- anyone know if they have a new mobile chipset coming out with the first meroms in august? Because if the macbooks could share 128MB graphics with system memory (as opposed to only 64 now), that may be enough to tip me in favor of the MB over the MBP.

I don't think 128 mb shared will do a great difference contra 64 mb. I think it will require some dedicated memory do make a significant difference in performance.

That is what I am going to do. Why whould I pay 2500$ for a laptop when new technology that I know is coming out soon. I would rather wait and protect my investment.

I believe 64 bit is going to be the future and since merom is going to have 64 bit extensions I think its best to wait.

Any word on whether the processor is soldered or not? I heard the MacBook Pro's CPU was soldered in...

I was wondering the same thing too.
