WIndows Vista and Dell 17" laptops

Does anyone know how well Vista will run with our 17"ers? I have a I9300 with 2 gigs and a 7800. I'm just curious to know if performance will improve with Direct X 10?

Our laptops will run Vista Premium. Whether the M1710/M90 will be able to run a G8xM part for DX10 support remains to be seen.

what is a G8xM?
Whatever they'll call the variant of the G80 (nVidia's next-gen part) for laptops. The smart money is on G81M, hence the "x" where the "1" is.

You can run this beta MS software that tests your system for Vista.

Its here

older systmes will run Vista as well, but Aero will not be enabled on them. You will need some newer tech for the Aero flash bang whistles and such. I would have to doubt an x300 will actually be good for Aero Vista.

While it said I needed a whooping 15gig in my C: partition, it did say mine would run the Aero.

I am beta testing Vista for MS on my 9300 with the nVidia 6800, and Aero runs sweet as....looks B-E-A-utiful!

Probably the only true benefit is that you can report bugs that hopefully will make the final release more stable. Other than that, the beta will probably be slower than the final release, so no real benefit there.

No real benefit. I have run 5342 on my 9300 and it runs fine. The drivers are pretty bad right now, but that's to be expected from a beta DX and beta OS. It will take a while for NVIDIA to put out decent Vista graphics drivers.

I can't think of any reason Vista would have problems with the 9300/XPS, except it still is a beta atm.
