3D2001SE Benchmark minimum score ??>>>

I am looking at buying a sub-laptop to take with me while I am on the road, mainly to check e-mail, surf the internet, watch DVD, and to occasionally play some games while waiting in the airport, etc, most if not all the ones I am looking at that are under 4.5 pounds do not come with dedicated video memory, but use the shared memory type. My question is, what is the RECOMMENDED minimum 3D2001SE score for playing some of todays 3D games ?? The ones I am looking at score under 2000 more like 1700-1900, of course I know it will depend on screen resolutions, etc. but let us say 800 x 600 resolution, etc. Thanks again for any info. Are you sure that's 3D2001SE, and not 3DMark2003? <2000 seems REALLY bad, and I think my 3-year-old desktop (with middle-of-the-road components at the time) can get scores beyond that.

Yes 3D2001SE, most of the sub-laptops have between the 32-64Megs of SHARED Video RAM.

As far a I know, the best sub-notebook you can get right now is a 12" Powerbook. That has a 32MB FX 5200Go.

Only problem after that is finding games that run on OSX.

The sub-laptop that I am looking at is the Fujitsu P5020 it scored approx. 1900 on the 3D2001SE benchmark.

My Sony Vaio V505DX will score about 5400 in 3dMark 2001. It has a Pentium M 1.4 and a Radeon 9200 32MB

1900 on the 3D2001SE benchmark...


I would bet my left one (it's larger and therefore more valuable to me) that that is WAY too low.

My desktop system gets about 3000 in 3dmark01, but still runs most of the latest 3d games as if they were slide shows...

My Sony Vaio V505DX gets about 5500 on 3DMark 2001SE, like I said. I play Halo at 800x600 with medium settings pretty decent. I also play UT2003 and UT2004 at 1024x768, normal to high settings, very well. Star Wars KOTOR plays generally well at 1024x768, medium settings.

Just be sure you get a screen with a 1024x768 natural resolution. You want to be able to run the notebook at the natural res as much as possible for games.

But, with sub 2000 scores in 3Dmark2001 you are not going to be getting much in the way of fast gaming.

My P3 700 Desktop system with Radeon 9000 running at AGP 2X gets a little over 4 thousand. If you want to run some of the latest games you will have to get scores of around 8-10 thousand. Otherwise you will have to stick with the old school games of the past 2 or 3 years.
