How Upgradable are the A8Jm and the W3J?

I was wondering if anyone knew whether both of the slots of RAM were upgradable, and also if the graphics would be upgradable on the A8Jm.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to outfit the A8Jm with Bluetooth?

Also, since it is looking kinda like the Yonah and the Merom are pin-pin compatible, do you think that Asus will update the bios on these laptops so that they work with 64 bit processors?

It seems(note, 'seems') the A8jm's 7600 IS MXM, HOWEVER, it can only be upgraded if ASUS makes one that will fit, as it is different from the generic MXM module. But it's probrably a fact that ASUS won't make anything.

The processor thing is still unknown, but ASUS likes their customers(THEY BETTER! )

As for the RAM, both machines have 2 sticks of 512, 533mhz on the A8jm, 667mhz on the W3j. A8jm with BT? It seems its possible, just that the place where its located needs to be found(so far, when all the basic parts(KB, bottom, CPU, etc. comes out, the BT space is still not found, so its probrably needs a full de-structuring of the A8jm!

So far, no any Asus laptop's video can be upgradable, only memory, hd, cpu or wireless mini pci. Core Duo's wireless mini pci use Intel 3945 a/b/g. Probably, another manufacturers is making their own model for this. Of course, ensemble models have their own factory specifications. If you change and upgrade the parts yourself, you must keep it and put it back in case it need a repair or service.

Thanks much.

How easy is it to get replacement batteries for these laptops?

Not hard, most dealers have them in stock or can order it for you.

Note they will cost $120+

IS the W3J's X1600 MXM?

I was under the impression that for the W3J, it was more permantly attacted to the MotherBoard than it was for the A8J. So I do not believe that it is MXM.

^It's soldered onto the MoBo, IIRC.

Interesting, Portable one's MX notebook is equipped very similarly to the A8jm, with the addition of Bluetooth. They describe it as an built on Asus model and it is running duo core, 512mb 7600 geforce, weighs about the same as the A8jm etc. What do folks know about this machine, is it a modified A8jm?

They do say that its model number is MXA8JM.

That is really cool. They are also only selling it at about 100 more than Newegg was when they were selling it. I think that is an awesome deal.

It is.

It seems like the A8jm was set to be Canada ONLY, thus the lack of details and of that laptop avaliablility in the US. P1 really liked it, so they had to pay more to get it, I would assume from Canada, so they can sell it down in the US.

The A8Jm is modular, but not MXM. Don't know about the W3J.

AFAIK, the only models Asus had with MXM was the Z81.

They said in an E-mail that the bluetooth came from the factory.

None of the A8jm's was BT pre-installed, and the BT modules are probrably modular and the same used in the W3/Z70v, as original Z63a users and Z70v users whom also didn't have an option for BT but the button+LED+Space were there. Those BT modules prolly came from the factory as well, but seperately.

A8jm's mainboard is ready for BT, but factory doesn't add it in Canada. A little bit similar to Z63a and W3V. Z63a doesn't come with a BT, but W3V comes with it. If you ask me why A8jm doesn't come with a BT, i can say i don't know. This is a Asus's decision!!!

Danny, any luck with finding where the BT module's supposed to go?

From what I saw yesterday while they were upgrading the W3J's, you need to remove the video card to change the processor, and they both have heat pipes, and share a fan, etc. However, you can easily remove the video card for the W3J. It has 3 screws holding it in.

It goes there....at the edge of the motherboard.....so you have to disensemble the laptop!
