I ordered a customized zt3000 the morning of Feb 10th, and it's expected to ship Feb. 19. I ordered the middle-tier screen. The lowest-tier has a vertical resolution of 800, which is gigantic. If you use anything above 1024x768 on your desktop, I think you'll find the lowest-tier screen to be too big.
If you have BestBuy or Frys or any one of a hundred retailers near you, do what I did - spend 30 minutes on the machine. Change the resolution, bring a DVD to stick in, try intensive operations, close it and pick it up, etc.
This HP machine isn't going to solve the world's problems. Why did I choose it?
(1) Sub-par reputation of the Dell 8600.
(2) Lack of customization available on the Toshibas M35 line.
(3) Lack of screen choices (max res is something x 800) for the Gateway M505 line, this was the way to go.
That left me back where I started - the HP, which I think is a dead-sexy machine.
