nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX with 256MB - Good News

As was posted in the Sager forum:

Sager has announce their 2 DTR systems will now be available with the new nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX with 256MB.

In addition Sager has announce that this will be their 1st user upgrade available for customers currently useing a system with the nVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX with 256MB card. Cards are only currently available with new systems only, full details will be released for upgrades soon!

Obviously this means that this card will be available for a user upgrade as well for the EX7 and FX7. What is the best news is that the modular video card bay FINALLY pays off without any motherboard upgrade needed.

It might be wise to wait a bit anyways in case the 512MB version of this card works and is released in July / August.

Yeah. I have been watching this as well. And a 512mb version would be definitely nice.

I am still waiting on the definitive answer (being checked into now) on what the upgrade prospects are for the CX7 with the dual core. The video should not be an issue, but to go to the dual core, I am expecting a new chipset or motherboard is going to be required to be replaced.

i dont mean to put a dampener on everyones spirits here but the mobile go 7900gtx really doesnt differ that much from the 7800gtx in that the only differance is more shader, geometry and clock speed. just about everything else includeing pixel pipelines is the same. i think id rather save my money thanks.

My interest is not necessarily for the 256mb version, rather the 512mb. If they release the 7800 with the 512mb then that too is a route I will go.

Just want to ensure I have the memory for all I need.

There will be a heat and space issue with the 512. I know you guys have your cooling but will it be enough for this, I dont think so. And you will be giving up some space in either a HD or optical drive, I forget where I read that.

Maybe so, but if that card is going to be installed and used in the CX7 (Sager 5720,5760) variants, then space is certainly not going to be an issue considering these machines are thinner with less room for heat ventilation.

Also, it remains to be seen what, if any, advantage will be had from moving from 256MB to 512MB. The beauty of the original post was the fact that it is a user upgrade for current owners with the possibility of even future upgrades. Not many other notebook designs can claim that.

I dont see much atvantage right now to go from a 265 to 512....same as I dont see any reason to go with SLI......so far there realy arent any games that take atvantage of this...the physics card is where I would put my money at this time...although I havent seen any offered for a laptop.....before I spend that kind of money on a video card I would want to have software or games out there that will take advantage of this....its just like with Intels and AMD's cpu's with HT...the full benifits of HT wasnt realized because software wasnt written to utilize this....I am still waiting to see if software will come out that will use dual core cpu's to its fullist....for me the only thing all those above offer is high benchmarks....braggin rights.......in the real world of games you dont see realy any improvemnets..a few more FPS......realy not noticable to the user although will add up with benchmarks.......

My main point was that it would probably be wise to wait until July / August even if one was considering upgrading to the GeForce Go 7900GTX mainly to see if the 512MB card will be supported. If it is not, then the 256MB version will work for certain and it MAY not even be much of a sacrifice since we won't know exact performance differences for a bit longer.

As far as the physics card, it has very limited supported in games out now and in development. A more powerful video card, in my opinion, would be a much wiser choice for an upgrade at the present time.

Even with all this good stuff on the horizon I went ahead and ordered a Sager 5760. I was in love with my Hypersonic CX7 and I know this one will not dissapoint me either. For now IMHO the 256 7900 GTX is a great way to go when combined with the duo 2.0 GHz processor, a 7200 rpm sata drive and 2 gigs of ram. That should give decent performace for any game out now especially since these are laptops The 512 would give limited boost but not worth the wait. I want my shiny new notebook NOW

A notebook with 2 7900 GTX 512 in SLI with a physics card and on-board audigy 2 sound would be SWEET. Come on Clevo/Sager let us have one of those!

I will defenitely get this upgrade, but I will also wait like Dennis for the 512mb version so long as it is compaitble. Hyper is closed right now, anyone have any idea how much it will cost for the 256mb 7900gtx?

I reconfigured the EX7 I am waiting on with the new 7900 and the price came out over a hundred bucks less....I will call them tuesday and if my laptop aint gonna ship tuesday or or wednesday I am gonna see if they wont upgrade me from the 7800 to the 7900, seeing how the cost for the 7900 is less than what I paid for my systems.....but if its gonna ship tuesday and the upgrade will delay the shipping for more than a day of 2 then I will stay with the 7800,,,nVidia has been doing a great job with driver updates on the 7800 gtx-go card..I dont see any thing on their site for the driver updates on the 7900...but this may only be due to it pretty new.......here are the spoecs on the 7 series cards

Yes. I love the fact that NVidia now provides the Forceware driver set for the GeForce Go 7800GTX directly on their site. The latest mobile release is 83.40. I would expect the next release to include both 7900 and 7800 support (and possibly older cards as well).

ATI also has new mobile driver support on their site, and I use it to keep the ATI Mobility Radeon X800 in my Aviator EX6 updated.

I never cared for TI cards..I have had several years ago..I like the fact nVidia is always updating drivers for improvements...sometimes the updated driver just has an improvement for a certain game...I have read Intel is gonna get back into the gaming video card scene.......this I have to see

AMD processors do not have HyperThreading, they have HyperTransport which is a different technology entirely.

told ya I knew nothing about AMD......but as far as HT and dual core..there still realy isnt anything out there to take full atvantage...also I hear Intel is commin out with a dual processor set-up..not a dual core.seems tech is looking back a few years...the 2 video card deal is nothing new..was done years ago

Well lets stop a sec and think about something. Every year we dish out cash for the newest and best GPU's on the market. I've worked as a 3d modeler for about 3 years now and it seems every year im stuck upgrading. well my 7800 GTX simply rocks. Rendering is smooth, and reliable, not crashing etc etc. I've already heard rumors of the newer GPU's in the works. I think it would be smartest to wait a few months and see what occurs. Ever since the 7800 seriues came out they been throwing out a new card every 2 months and nothing has been all that impressive to force me togo out and blow and $1,000 every other month.

my 7900gtx is on the ups truck and on its way to my house now...I downloaded the 7900 drivers from clevo just in case driver dis not included with video card...I cant wait to check it out...my system only will need a paint job....I told the wife that would be a swet anaversery present come sept.......Hint Hint.......I am pleased with my EX7, I wish they would come out with a better battery, I sure would buy it.....
