Aurora M9700???

Ok I'm a first time shopper, and I'm doing MAJOR research on which laptop to get, I mean I'm getting down to the nitty gritty like customer service, battery life, benchmarks, etc. So I'm down to my top two, dont shoot me for saying this but they are the Aurora M9700 and the Macbook Pro. I'm used to using PC's and I'm an ammateur at Mac's, the only reason I'm considering Mac's is "the not virus Worries" and the multi media functions are amazing. But when it comes to gaming, I dont even consider mac, so I'm in a stump. Can anyone tell me about the M9700 benchmars, batterylife, etc. I know its not out yet, so no one can give me personal opinions on being an owner of one, but most of you are Alienware owners, so you're opinion is in high regard.

Thanx.

CP,
I have ordered the 9700. I have found ZERO benchmarks on it, though. As far as I can tell, AW is the ONLY US reseller of that laptop. AW doesn't appear to be selling it until June 20th, as well. So, it may be awhile before we see some reviews and benchmarks.

I can tell you what I expect from it. Somewhat similar benchmarks to the Sager 5950 (the mALX and the 5950 are rebadged Clevos; though the mALX has 7900 GTXs vice 7800 GTXs), minus a good 10% percent or two. I am guessing here. The 7900 GS has gotten about a 10% lower 3DMark05 score than the 7800 GTX. What happens when you pair 7900 GSs in SLI? Beats me, so, I am making a stab.

I expect a bit better battery life, though that is not saying much. The 7900 GS draws less watts than the 7800 or 7900 GTX. Maybe, an hour off battery power. Never been a concern for me.

I guess it is safe to say that the m9700 is still pretty darn new. Hammerhead has been toying around with getting one. Maybe he has some better intel than I have.

I'd also throw this out to you. The days of Mac being "a safe bet" against viruses is rapidly coming to an end. More and more viruses are being coded for Macs these days. Speaking of which, anyone else seen those new Mac commercials? The hip guy (Mac) talking with the other fat guy (PC)? Those get such a laugh out of me.

thanx for the info. I guess to get a real scoop we'll have to wait until it comes out. How is Alienware's Customer service/warranty? I will definately be buying the extended warranty, thats for sure, also, when Vista comes out, is it going to be a smooth transition to convert over? Or can I forsee some issues?

AW's CS? Well, from what I have seen it is overall good; but, there are some who have had issues. A lot of the issues, to me, seem to revolve around 1.), the P4 version of the 7700 (I never thought that a P4 desktop proc in a laptop was a smooth plan, and the D900, the Clevo it is based off has had problems with a number of different resellers), and 2.), not understanding the terms and conditions of the warranty. meaning, most likely, AW will have it shipped to the depot for repair, no matter what the buyer may define as "on-site" service. If that is cool with you, I don't see any problems. So far, and this is my first order from AW, the reps have been responsive and provided me with what I have asked for.

No matter what, extended warranty is a most -- regardless of reseller.

Speaking of which, I need to up my warranty on Monday!
