8887 - 2 quick Questions

Thread Starter
I'm looking at getting a 8887 - maxed out, however I have two easy questions that I was hoping to get answered ahead of time:
(1) How is the noise level for the 8887? I know it has the 2 fans underneath, but how does it compare to a traditional laptop?

(2) How is the heat it generates? Can you utilize this notebook from your laptop or would you need a laptop cooler pad?

I use my laptop for everything and love the power these new ones provide. However I utilize my existing 'old' laptop from the couch all the time - wondering if it will still be a viable 'work' location.

Thanks

lap

if you use the laptop on your lap, make sure its on a sturdy smooth platform, the air intake fans are on the bottom, so you dont want to block them.

1. Probably louder (mine comes in tomorrow, so I'll know more then). However, you'll be so preoccupied power-computing that you'll not notice, I bet!

2. It definately is warm. Maybe not McDonald's-I'm-suing-for-millions hot, but very very warm. I strongly recommend this sucker for ALL laptops (got a few and they are excellent non-powered heat sheilds/pads.

Myrkat...

I have an 8887 on order which I will be running on AC as a desktop replacement.

I checked out the laptop desk you recommended and see that they also have a $10 discount if you order their "mini optical mouse." Do you happen to have one of those, and is it worth buying, or should I get a full sized one from microsoft?

Appreciate the advice.

I do not have their mini-optical mouse. I did get my wife one (a Targus, I believe - bought it at BestBuy). Anyway, after using the mini-mouse for a while, my hand gets cramped up (it's too small).

Currently, I use the Hybrid-color-matching MS optical explorer mouse with my machine.

There isn't a LOT of mousing surface on those Desk pad things, but I usually use the touchpad when I use the deskpad (like sitting on my la-z-boy couch watchin TV and surfing!)
