Nice. The W2JC wasn't worth it to me. $600+ more for a WSXGA+? No thanks.

That's the best part, though. I only paid USD $2,250.00 for it. Specs are mostly the same as yours, except that it came with XP Home, 120 G 5400 harddrive, and the 1680x1050 WSXGA screen. I also threw in another gig of RAM as soon as I got it.

I guess my real question was this: does it have S-Video, composite, and/or Component in?

hey vavdichal. where did you buy your Asus W2Jc from? I've been trying to find that model with a WSXGA+ (1680x1040) resolution, but only finding the WXGA+ (1440x900) available in almost every reseller. Also, how did you get it for that price? Nuts...

I was thinking about getting the MSI-1036, but this laptop threw my world upside down. If I can find the higher resolution screen, I think I'm in love. A little bit more pricey than I wanted to spend, but from the looks of it, its probably worth it.

One more question for you and Huskyfan, does it have a PCMCIA or Expresscard slot? Thanks

I dont know if you answer this already, but would you recommend this for college? Or would you say its too heavy?

Sure would. That's why I bought it. It's lighter than any other 17" I've seen. Real easy to carry.

Thanks for writing this great review. There are so few 17" notebooks out there. It is great to see a nice review like this.

For those who have the WSXGA+: What do you think about the text size? Would going any higher for the resolution (WUXGA) be too much for this screen size?

I am trying to find the perfect notebook for me. So far there are only a few: Asus W2Jc, LG LW70 (new 17" model is supposed to come out in Q3), Dell XPS M1710 and Dell Precision M90. The latter two only come with WUXGA (other than the WXGA+). It is impossible to find a notebook with WSXGA+ or WUXGA around here, so I have tried to make my mind up about the resolution for quite some time now...

Thanks for any help.

Thanks.

What's so important about WSXGA+? I had it on my last notebook and there wasn't much of a difference at all. Nothing negative IMO.

I checked out a couple of 17" notebooks with 1440x900 resolution. I think the pixels are just too big and screen real estate is a bit low. That's why I try to decide between 1680x1050 and 1920x1200.

I used to have a 15" notebook with 1400x1050. I loved that resolution and would not like to go any lower on a new notebook. I think that 17" and 1680x1050 is exactly the same as the lower resolution on the 15".

I got it when I visited Computex last week and was directly to one of their local distributors.

I think it's amazing. I don't believe there is a thinner notebook out there with these kind of specs. Or one that runs so quietly.

Great review huskyfan23!

I've been researching 17" notebooks for about the last 3 months and I have finally decided upon the Asus W2Jb. Just ordered it 2 days ago from eWiz and I should have it by next week. Can't wait.

Thanks for the review and the pic's to go with it.
