What kind of mini pci card goes in the 5100?

Hey guys, can anyone point me to a site that sells these cards? I heard a lot about atheros but what will be compatible with my laptop? The original toshiba card is a ridiculous $100 however a refurbished one from www.getpartsonline.com is $20. I'd rather spend a bit more and get a new card that works but not to the $100 mark.

If you are putting in a wireless card, make sure you have an antenna. The 5100 series has an "optional" card, but if it didn't come wth une, you probably don't have the antenna installed. The original antenna is routed around the LCD inside the screen housing and comes down thru the case

I checked just now and the antenna cables are there, so I am good to go. All I have to do is find a proper card however. Any chance you might know what kind would work, an atheros one maybe?

I haven't put one in, but I would expect that any would work. Perhaps someone can tell you if the antenna connector for the card matches the cable.

my 5105-s607 now has a Toshiba Atheros (802.11g) card in it. i used the driver from an A65. no problemo

Ahh yes, been hearing a lot about 5105s with atheros but what about the 5100 as thats apparently the canadian model or something? Heck, I could be wrong and maybe i have a 5105 so what kind of card did you use and would there be a place to order it?

I dont know the specifics of your model, but any Mini-Pci card should work, at the most you may have to mask off some pins like I described in the following thread, but otherwise any card should work:
